Hey guys...i just bought myself (well actually my company did..but SHH!) a new Athlon 1.2 on an Asus A7v133 mobo with a stick of 256 pc133 RAM. Hooked up all the other basic PCI goodies and let the sucker run. After about 30 minutes of 'breaking in' (3Dbench, quake..) i checked my cpu temp and it was at 50C! since i'm use to my old PIII 500 @ 600 running around 33C i was pissin in my pants! is this temp normal for an the Athlon?...i didn't even get to OC yet it either!...btw..just how would i go about OC'ing on this mobo..and what heatsink should i get? Appreciate all your input!

marshman,

Maybe you should read this article. You may be able to lower you CPU temps by 5-10C. It makes the CPU use it's idle cycles at lower power which can lower the core temperature.

Hi!

Itt seems to me to be a resonable temperature given the following facts:

- you lett it run so the CPU was not idling (full load)
- since you haven't mentioned the HSF I assume that you use the default one (what
it came with the CPU ).

So It's Ok, for now, but if you want to OC, then work a little on the cooling (the
CPU and the case itself ). Just read on the forums and reviews...

I fail to see the point of running 'CPU-cooling' programs. If the system isn't stable without them chances are it'll crash once you put it under pressure. Those idle cycles are much better spent at SETI, RC5 or Genome

Hear, hear, I totally agree. In fact, it is just another proggie draning the system resources and really has no effect when crunching the sucker during use.

Also, I found that by eliminating the 'crutch' and concentrating on the cooling, you can get equal or better clocks.
