Hi, 1st post here

Very nice review but i have some questions about stock AM1 heatsink...

How much tall is the complete heatsink including fan ?

How much tall is the alu part , the heatsink itself ?

The Fan is 50mm width , correct ?

TIA,
AJSB

Well i myself am pretty new here too

Heatsink dimensions without fan:

H x W x L (cm)
2.3 x 5.2 x 5.2

Heatsink + Fan dimensions:

H x W x L (cm)
4 x 5.2 x 5.2

Fan size:

50 x 50 x 17 mm

will update it into first post.

Hey just wondering how you were lucky enough to get one of those chips on the 23rd! Anand and Ryan Smith are doing some Kabini write-ups, but it looks like you may have beat them? I can't seem to find any other reviews.

There was a first shipment of APUs in Europe last week with some Motherboards as well.

Well, i was on Mindfactory buying stuff, but randomly found some am1 gear on stock Cheap.. so i just ordered. Its kinda surprising that there are no real reviews yet but its great to hear team Anand are working on their next masterpiece of a review ^^

Can you post a CPU-Z shot, so that we can see what instruction set extensions these chips support? I'm most curious about AES-NI, but AVX or AVX2 would be a nice bonus. Thanks.

Micro Center has some chips in stock near me, but no boards.

A 6850 is an odd duck for that configuration, 7750/70 would be a bit more appropriate.

Diffused in Germany?

Kabini for comparison, diffused in Taiwan:

Do TSMC have a fab in Germany?

To the OP: Does your motherboard have a UEFI setting to manipulate BCLK/FSB/HTT/etc.? I was wondering if you could try tweaking that after setting your SATA controller to IDE mode, or if that's even an option.

http://www.microcenter.com/product/430776/Sempron_3850_AM1_1300_MHz_Socket_FS1b_Boxed_Processor

Look at the specs of the 3850 AM1 quad-core. ECC supported? That would be a change from their FM1/2/2+ strategy. Could these be the new preferred ZFS mini-server CPUs? Total RAM size might be a tad limiting though.

Nice find on that ECC memory.

CPU also reports ECC is supported on the Athlon 5350: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Jaguar/AMD-Athlon 5350 - AD5350JAH44HM.html

Would love to see a am1 8 core kabini @2Ghz

That would be pretty good for servers, but for PCs? Nah, bro. I figured AMD was going to release some form of the PS4's APU for PC and servers (assuming Sony doesn't have exclusive license to it, and I'm sure they do). Likewise, it would be an interesting server APU for scientific computing, or what have you. For the general PC user, it's cores and memory interface are too narrow. Trinity, Richland, and Kaveri have the same problem (narrow cores) but luckily have the shared FPU and can be ran through 4.0 GHz.

I like my AMD Athlon 5350 2.05GHz (QuadCore, Jaguar) and motherboard ASRock AM1H-ITX in combination with my graphics card Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB GDDR5.

So my Embedded Hardware VIA EPIA M920-12Q VIA QuadCore L4700 1.2GHz processor finally replaced the above AMD consumer hardware.

Playing games (like Battlefield 3 MultiPlayer, F1 2012 Demo, GRID Demo 2, Mafia 2 Demo, Resident Evil 5 etc.) at 1080p in high resolution - settings is great fun.

Looks like a nice build, but im kinda surprised about the combination, i would have gone with an 35w i3 with that gpu, but is a massive update from your via ^^.

i ordered an siverstone sg055 case, will hopefully recive it in a few days and post a few pictures.

btw how do you up images??

Does these AM1 MoBos allow adjust CPU, iGPU and/or RAM voltage ?
I'm specially interested in undervolt all those items if possible...

Does these MoBos allow higher RAM speeds like 1866MHz ?

I know that its not possible OC the CPU, but how about the iGPU ?
Is it possible to adjust iGPU clock to something a little above ?

TIA,
AJSB

Unfortunately all reviews use oversized PSUs , THG go as far as using a 850W one despite the 19V DC input available in their test MB, anyway i ll mount a cheap PC based on the 5350 and the Asrock AM1H ITX despite its higher price , it has quite a few desirable features as said 19VDC input as well as 4 Sata while the 4 usb3 + 6 usb2 is more balanced than Asus s 2 usb3 + 8 usb2, not counting 7.1 audio instead of 3.1.

Edit : didnt see that Anand s review was also posted..
