I remember reading about the Athlon 64 having a 333FSB... but now that the barton will be getting a 400MHz FSB... will the Athlon 64 be behind the times or can we expect it to also have a 400MHz FSB?
there is no real front side bus with the Athlon 64, but AMD has said that the memory bandwidth between the CPU and the components will be the equivalent of an 800 mHz FSB.
EdipisRex: You got it. It is more a matter of supporting different memory speeds, the 2GHz Athlon 64 is supposed to be able to fully utilize PC2700 memory.
JeremiahTheGreat: You are misinformed, only the Opterons will have Dual-Channel, current designs for the Athlon 64 are (sadly) Single-Channel DDR.
CorsairPro: The internal bandwidth to the memory controller is supposed to be about 18GB/s on the 2GHz models. The memory controller also is supposed to be twice as responsive as competing brands. Of course, that varies based on clock speed.
from reading that article, it seems that the FSB from the memory to the controller will actually fluctuate up or down based on the actual frequency of the processor... wow... i'm going to have to RE-Learn this stuff
