Are there any Athlon 64 socket 754 motherboards which have a PCI-Express slot on them?

Don't wait, man. PCI-E = Waste of Money. That is, until they make cards and boards that actually support it's full potential. Until then, AGP is better.

I'd been reading about the GF 6600 GT and how it is initially only going to support PCI-E. Do you know how long it is going to take before they make an AGP model of the card? Also, I've not seen any tests between the 6600 GT and the 6800 GT, did Anandtech do one that I just didn't see, or has anyone else made one?

i saw a benchmark of the 6600 gt and if i remember right, it was about as fast as ati's x800 pro.

I wouldn't begin to require PCI-E capabilites on a board that I buy until I can't buy my cards in any other format.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say it won't be mandantory until like 2006 or 2007.

Yes, perhaps in a benchmark but for the most part it goes like this

x800 Pro > 6800 > 6600GT > 9800XT

Of which all are slower than the 16 pipe parts

Don't make the 6600GT out to be the miracle $400 performing $200 part it is not, what it will be is the undisputed midrange board until ATI can come up with something to challenge it.

Yeah, I'm not counting on it outperforming an X800 Pro...although ATI is supposedly going to release a "mid-priced" video card which should be comparable to the 6600 GT. Still, for $200, the 6600 GT is going to have pretty good performance for the price (about the price of a 9800 PRO nowadays, yet it outperforms it by a good chunk)

Any idea when they'll release an AGP version of the 6600 GT?

Not until November at the earliest. So far the 6600GT is a paper launch and it'll be a good month *after* the PCI-E release until you see AGP versions best case scenario per nVidia.

Haha, I just read the benchmark test for the 6600 GT...it actually beat out an X600 XT PE on one test. Actually, I think the funniest part is that on one test, the 6800 Ultra beat the 6800 Ultra Extreme...that just isn't right at all...

Still, it looks like it'll be a good card for under $200 (as long as you don't require AA/AF)
