I'm thinking about upgrading my AMD XP 2100 (1.73 @ 2.23) to a new Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ and I have a few questions.
1) Is there a web site that lists the motherboards that will work with this cpu?
2) Will the Mobile 64 work with all Nforce 250 motherboards? I'm really interested in the new
EPOX EP-8KDA3J Nforce 250 motherboard, which MWave has for $90.
3) What heat sink do you recommend for the mobile Athlon 64?
4) I don't plan on upgrading my memory (Corsair XMS 3200). Will I still be able to overclock well with this memory? Correct me if I'm wrong, the multiplier on the Mobile 64 3000+ is locked at 9 (i.e. 9 x 200 mhz fsb = 1.8ghz). In order to overclock to say 2.4 ghz I'm going to have to run the fsb in the 270 mhz range (9 x 270 = 2430 mhz). Can the Nforce 250 motherboards run that high of a fsb?
5) Does the Nforce 250 bios allow you to lock your memory at 200 mhz and just up the fsb or do I have to use the 6:5 or 3:2 dividers? Assuming the Nforce 250 motherboards can run the fsb over 270 mhz and I use the 3:2 divider, is it as simple as setting my memory to run at 180 mhz (i.e fsb would be running at 270 mhz)?
Sorry for so many questions, but overclocking the new Athlon 64 is a little different. I've read some of Bar81's thread, which is quite good, but it just brought up more questions. Thanks in advance for the advice.
