I am building a system for a friend and the last part I need is a good cooler for this CPU (I know some say stock is good enough) but I prefer a quality after market cooler....any suggestions? thanks

Thermalright XP-120 is also a good choice, besides the XP-90 if you have room for a 120mm fan

I'm considering an upgrade to my Athlon 64 HSF. I've been considering either the TT Silent Boost K8 or the AC Freezer 64. I've searched the forums and read some reviews. Right now I'm leaning toward the Silent Boost. Anyone else have any opinions that could help either Wheezer or myself?

I am a big Zalman fan.

They may not be the best at cooling or the most quiet, but they give you everything you need in an easy to install package, are priced decently, and will work extremely well for all but the most demanding users.

I have used a:
7000-AlCu on my XP-1800+
7700-AlCu on my A64 3200+
V700-AlCu on my X800XL

I have always run them @ the lowest setting and in every case they have worked better (and run more quietly) than the the stock coolers @ the stock speeds.

If you aren't overclocking, the retail HSF is far more than adequate for either the Venice or San Diego cores...
To give you an idea, I'm running the the retail HSF on my Venice 3200, and the absolute highest temp I can get the CPU to hit is 35C...and I've tried REAL hard!

I'm running the retail heatsink/fan with a Venice overclocked to 2.6 GHz @ 1.5 volts. Right now just browsing the forums it's running 31 degrees C with a 24 C room temp. The fan is inaudible, spinning at less than 2000 RPM. With a constant room temp of 24 C, the highest the temp gets is 50 degrees C while running Prime 95 with the fan running under 4000 RPM. There's no reason to get an aftermarket heatsink/fan unless you want it as quiet as possible under all loads, or you want to do some extreme overclocking.

Big Zalman 7700Cu. One step solution that will cool the CPU, RAM, MOSFETs, and chipset on the motherboard. This cooler works best with a side duct that will feed cool room temp air to the Zalman CPU fan.
