actually a Athlon 1400 MHz OCed to 1600 MHz would probably beat an AthlonXP 1600+. the 1600+ is actually clocked at 1400 MHz. the performance gain of the Palomino core versus the Thunderbird core is not great enough to offset 200 MHz i think. BUT, i do say that a 1600+ would OC to 1900+ with little work.
btw, i don't have the nerve to do the superglue trick either, so i bought the AthlonXP OC kit from highspeedpc. no superglue, no solder, just some paste to fill the hole and some nonpermanent conductive paste to close the bridge. the first time i tried, it didn't work, so i just wiped it away and tried again. second time was the charm =) the kit was $10 and there is probably enought there to do about 20 chips.
