Athlon overclocking help

Alright, I have had an old athlon 650 (.18) for a while now. I succesfully changed the multiplyer on it to 8.0 and have been running it at that speed for about 4 months. The only problem with it is, it has to warm up before windows will boot! If the cpu is not allowed to warm up, it loads up windows in about 5 seconds, and there are absolutley no drivers loaded of any kind, and when you look in the system properties, there are 0 devices listed, not even the motherboard resources. After about a minute, the cpu warms up enough that it can load windows fine, and is perfectly stable at this speed. I recently bought a new cpu fan, which is much more efficent than the older one that came with my athlon, and now it takes about 5 min to warm up on startup. I have a K7M and I put the bus down to 95 to make 760 clock speed, and this setting runs stable as well, in addition it does not require a "warm up" period. The 95 bus however is not very appealing, and niether is changing the multiplier again. If anyone could shade some possible light onto this problem and suggest a possible solution I would be most greatfull.

Thanks in advance

Sounds just like a woman to me, ya get to warm em up before ya put the meat in !! Sorry couldn't resist. When you say no drivers loaded, do you mean that it boots in Safe Mode ?? Also what speed is your Cache running ? Should be 2/5 for 800.

At 800 you've just pushed the envelope too far, unless you've missed something like DaddyG pointed out.

You might want to run some benchmarks to see if:

1. Your system is stable, really - or justs seems stable!

2. You might be better off at 750/100. The difference probably isn't that much, but a simple benchmark like SiSoft can help when evaluating these changes.

the cache is at 400, it works fine there, and as far as stability goes, I have done hundreds of hours of burn in (I play LOTS of quake3 the cpu is rock solid, cache and all, just has that messed warm up thing at 800.

when I say no drivers are loaded I mean, it looks like safe mode but it doesnt say safe mode, and there are NO, let me repeat, NO devices in the system properties.

the only thing I could think of, was something to do with the ram. I have had problems before, but I dont have any ram to test with.
