Is this normal????

I just got this computer a week ago.

Athlon2100+/Gigabyte 7VRXP/512 Kingston/GF4 4200.

Now I was looking through the net for normal temp range but I couldn't find any.

I'm presuming that this is probably not right since I have had a numerous reboots(the computer automatically reboots by itself) when I'm in W2K.

I thought that maybe its the heatsink but its a Thermaltake 7. But its still very hot.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

What fan are you using on the heatsink? How is teh cooling setup in your case? Did you use artic silver or a thermal pad?

if your computer reboots with that board, try moving your RAM to different spots. I had the same problem. It fixed up. I don't think that your compuer would reboot with those temps unless something else was seriously wrong.

i believe your motherboard has the more accurate temp reading than other boards. do a search on your motherboard and you'll find a few threads on it.

i have XP 2100+ and 8k3a+...i use to get temperatures ranging from 50-65 (b4 i got an AC for my room )...but it never rebooted me...
now its sitting @ 48C idle and 54C under load ........case temp is about ~26C

try adding more flow to your case, and also position the fan to blow into the heatsink

Holy crap. Im sorry, but my 2100 on a Ga-7VRXP is a hot one too. The internal diode reading reads it at 82c IDLE.. WTF?! The highest reading with an external diode so far has been with a blade type on with my DD5 set right next to my core at 50c, doesnt go higher though. Are you using the 2.0 version board that reads the internal diode? Mine is just wayyyy too hot regardless of the configuration but, geeze. Oh ya, btw, it wont run on 133mhz system clock anymore, or atleast when i was trying it earlier, it would reboot before it got to windows. Stupid thing, that effectively makes it underclock all the way to 1400 mhz All i can think of what i havent done is lap the bottom of my heat sink (I have the same fan, sorta, its the Volcano 7+), ive followed the instructions on the AS3 site too. Im just at a loss at this point why mine is so damn hot.

So the 2.0 version of VRXP reads the internal diode? Sweet!

you running that fan on it's high or low speed? thermaltake... hmm begs the question are their fan cfm specs really what thay say they are or is it another overstated spec like the 38 cfm fan on the volcano2 which was in truth a 27 cfm fan. Did you build it yourself or have it built for you. What is your case ventilation like? How many case fans? location? intake or exhausting? What is your case temp reported by your motherboard? You need to give more specific information or don't you really know any of these things?

P.S. This is in reference to the other of your total 2 posts here at Anandtech. Since it is obvious that you are still learning some things you shouldn't be so quick to crap on other peoples posts until you know more about what you are talking about.

My computer idles around 50 Celsius. It's an AMD XP1800 with an Alpha PAL8045 on it, and a Vantec Tornado 80mm fan.

I used Arctic Thermal 3, but, is this good enough. My room is kind of hot, so I'm not sure what I should expect. Performance is great though - it's an A7V333 board, and the 3dmark score was 9000+. In games, it's very fast, etc.

Originally I had 4 fans in the case (2 80mm - chassis fan and heatsink fan - and the dual fans on the Enermax power supply), but it was just too loud. The Delta 80mm case fan is ridiculous, and it's not too quiet without it. I was wondering if there are ways to reduce the noise - any kind of method, as long as it doesn't cause drastic temperature increases. Also, with all fans in, the temperature is idel around the high 40s C. Is this good enough, or should I get more from this setup?

Thanks guys.
