this is great but 1 question Difference between oem and retail box = what???

amd all the way for my first home built computer

my dad said we could upgrade when processors are 10x faster than our right now 233

but the performance of them is about 100-200x better

Retail comes with a 3 year warranty and heat sink fan. OEM comes w/ a 30 day warranty and no heat sink.

<< hmm the XP1500 (1.3Ghz) looks very tempting..i wonder if my 300watt Antec303x power supply would be enough for this cpu?

it should be just fine. remember that this cpu consumes less power. Just think of it has a tbird at 300 mhz less power consumption.

AMD should thank VIA and NVIDIA for the impressive performance of the Athlon XP. Any review that doesn't pair the Athlon XP with one of those two mentioned platforms is going to look real dissapointing. Thank you Anand for benching with the new KT266A and not the AMD 760 like some other sites.

While I'm on that point, it would be nice to see how those two platforms compare in performance with the new processor. Can we have some Quake III benches of the XP1800 on each platform?

Link
"A big question we asked ourselves when we were first introduced to nForce's built-in prefetching logic (DASP) is how it would complement (if at all) the data prefetch in AMD's Palomino core.

Quake III Arena ended up being the perfect test for this as the KT266A clearly showed that it benefited more from the Thunderbird > Palomino transition than the nForce. The only real explanation is that the IGP's DASP removes some of the usefulness of data prefetch provided by the Palomino core."

Now that there is no NDA, can we see some benches with real fps?

Exactley. That's why I didn't read ExtremeTech's review, and why I dismissed Tom's review of the 2GHz P4 because both used the now obselete AMD 760 chipset, when KT26A, and nForce are significantley faster.

Actually, the OEM warranty is set by the dealer. Some vendors like MWave have always had a 1 year warranty on OEM processors.
With the XP, it seems like almost everyone is giving a 1 year on the OEM processors, including Newegg who usually only gives 30-days. I wonder if AMD changed something.

IMHO the rating system will help.

Anand said in his article "There are much better ways to educate the masses" as well as most of you in here, when was the last time anyone saw an AMD commercial on TV and how long would it take to "educate the masses" with such commercials ($). I think AMD has picked the best solution for their processors thus far with this rating system. I'm not saying i like it but it will sell more processors than if they don't use it.

Secondly the rating system is fair, now that new chipsets are coming out (KT266A, NFORCE) it seems a little underated, howerver overating the system (as in the past) is the same reason so many of you dislike it so much, by actually underating it, it's more like no harm no foul.

Just go into your local best buy, comp usa and listen the the sales people peddle high end, its all megahertz with low end integrated peripherals, then you'll see what I mean.
