Athlon XP multiplier locked?

Hey just have a question. I just bought an Athlon XP 2200+ and an AOpen AK77-8XN and I have control over the clock multiplier. I can change it in the bios and boot into windows and the change sticks. The motherboard is a VIA chipset not the NForce2 which I heard had multiplier adjustment. Whats up? Am I misinformed? Thanks...

Are the L1 bridges closed?

if the processor is of the barton or thourobred core variety, then yes you can change the multiplier right of the box on your motherboard. however, if it's a palomino, you will physically have to close the L1 bridges first
