AthlonXP 1700+... Plan for Blowing CPU air "directly out of case"...

Hey, after working myself to death this week I told myself i could get a AthlonXP.

So, i went ahead and ordered a 1700+ fron NewEgg. I hope i get a B core. And i'm hoping to overclock it to the 1.9-2.5 range (we'll see). Anyway, Does anyone know what kinda performance differance i will see from my old Athlon 1.4 @ 1.5 (9*166) ? I tried looking for comparison tests but i didnt find anything.

Also I've seen that some people have been getting their 1700's and they have said that the multiplier unlocked? Is there any truth to this?

One last question, and i know this sounds n00bish, but its been awhile and I'm wondering what the procedure is for new CPU's, should i reset my bios and then install, and then set it up?

Your tbred will be unlocked. As far as what kind of performance you will get... that will depend on your mobo and memory also. I you have a ultra400 nforce2 chipset on your mb, you should easily get 200 or better fsb and end up in the 2.1-2.3ghz range, a relatively small percentage of tbed b's will do 2.4-2.5ghz. But who knows, you could be lucky. None the less you should notice a nice performance increase with your 1700+. Please let us know the stepping you recieve. I have been curious what newegg is shipping for $45.

Anyone have any experience with this stepping. All of the AIUGA ones that I have seen were from last year so I'm kind of curious as to why they went back to a tbred A model.

it's a A core , you should ger 1.7-1.8 out of it since it is 1.5V

I saw that by taking the average of the ones on overclockers database. My main question is why did they go back to the T-bred A? The youngest one that has a date on it over there is 0247.

2200+ Speeds For $45 is not bad. Pluss I get a WAY better FSB.

I'll try pushing the FSB later, and maybe more volts. I'm at 1.675 now.

How high should i go for the Voltage before i should stop?

i would say......around 2 volts with a SLK-900(u) and tornado fan you could keep it there for maybe a few months before the cpu dies...

Well i got her at 1.8 Ghz (9*200) at 1.8 volts (1.79 volts actually) I will see tomorrow about getting the voltage down possibly a step. I must say i am VERY happy.

She runs a little hot, 43 Idle, 46-47 under load. But I'm VERY happy.

Actually i think i have a plan. Since my heatsink works beter sucking air (as opposed to blowing air into it) I am going to look into modding my case to pump the air directly out the side, this would help get that "bad" air out. And i think I should get one of thoes adaptors that lets you use bigger fans on heatsinks so i could get a GOOD HIGH quality fan, that gets good CFM's at low speed/noise.

any recomendations on a standard sized fan?

I dont like how they cut the sides off of that, i would rather have it be a solid tube desighn, so the air only has 1 way to go...

2200 Speeds, that plenty fast for me. Now i need a new Video card.........Heheeh
