I'm looking for a "budget" video card for my latest new computer and, while this one meets the cost criteria, I wonder if this card might cause problems with a 1.+ CPU and newer Windows. IE will the DVD decoding work? Will the computer not boot because of incompatibility issues? Seems to me that an "older" video card can hang up a system. Any truth in these worries?

Don't worry, this is a decent card. Just don't expect to play the latest 3D games on it...But its the all-in-wonder, u can do video capturing and watch TV with this card. Hot!

The blurb seems to imply that you need to use Windows 9X to use this card. Has anyone had gotten this card to work with W2K or later?

I think I'll order the ATI 32MB RADEON ALLINWONDER DVI AGP PAL for $33 plus about $7 ground shipping. It doesn't come with cables and the TV-out is for European PAL instead of NTSC, but I've never used TV-out from a TV card anyway and I have a set of cables from a retail 8 MB All-In-Wonder TV card that I've used for years. I think the Radeon has a better chance of working with Windows 2000. Pretty decent prices for video cards.

yes, works perfectly with win2000 and winxp. just go to www.atitech.com for the latest drivers to get wdm support. (but i don't think they are updating the drivers anymore...)

I have the PCI version of this card (All in wonder 128) and it works fine in Windows xp, no worse than any other ATI card. This is a P4/1.6a machine.
Also, as to the Pal card, I can't say I've worked with THAT specific card, but in general, the TV tuner is all that has a TV standard. The TV out can be configured through software to be PAL or NTSC.

doesnt that go for as low as $50 some times?

Radeon 7500 doesnt not have a TV Tuner. Seeing a TV Tuner will run around $30 by itself, this is a pretty good deal.

will a PAL card work with the US NTSC (sp?) programming format?

I used to own the 16MB version, I liked it. Also, the 32 MB ATI AIW works in windows 2k, I'm using it right now to slow down my 1800+ amd 512mb DDR system If only my extra spending money wasnt tied up in rebates...

It said it include 3 cables:

PACKAGE Incl:

S-VIDEO CABLE 6FT 4PIN MALE/4-PIN MALE
DUAL RCA CABLE 6FT MALE TO MALE
VIDEO TO SVIDEO FEMALE/RCA FEMALE/STEREO

I think you need to two special cables - one for input, one for output. Seems it miss one of those.

> I'm looking for a "budget" video card for my latest new computer ...

Carefull! Your "latest new computer" might have 1.5V ONLY AGP bus; plugging-in older 3.3 V AGP card could fry it. Make sure your mobo has 3.3V tolerant AGP slot.

If you have older mobo and your budget is super tight--this deal is hot. If you need 1.5V AGP card, get yourself Radeon 7500 AIW for $72 shipped (listed at pricewatch).

Edit: NewEgg pulled their add from pricewatch :-( Looks like it was a pricing mistake, "Anandtech Effect", or both. Now the cheapest Radeon AIW appears to be $79.

this is still available and i'm thinking i might get one.
it would be nice to have the tuner and i'd like to transfer some videos.

one thing i was wondering about, with the tv tuner, assuming i connected cable tv,
is it possible to get scrambled stations. how would i get hbo etc, that i need to use
my converter box to descramble?

Thanks for the heads up. How would you determine the voltage on the agp slot? I'm using a stock motherboard from a PIII Compaq Presario.

i'm not sure if the the ati radeon aiw dvi pal card for $33 comes with the dvi-i to vga converter dongle that is usually supplied in retail versions. so if you're using a regular crt monitor, like me, i dont know if you can use this card.

* New mobo(s): usually they place yellow sticker on AGP slot saying "1.5V AGP cards ONLY"
* Old/OEM mobos: read the manual or send e-mail to manufacturer

I know for sure that "Good Old 440BX" is 3.3V tolerant

AGP 2.0 spec shows both 3.3 and 1.5V signaling levels (source), so all the mobos should be compatible with older cards, but they ain't! To be on a safe side, you can use the following "rule of thumb": if mobo supports AGP 4x mode, then it's most likely 1.5V only; if mobo is advertized for AGP 1x/2x only, then you can use 3.3V cards. If you got yourself an 8x AGP-capable monster...WTF are you doing here?

P.S. $72 ad was pulled from pricewatch.com The cheapest Radeon AIW is $79 now. I edited my post accordingly.

Can I use this card in conjunction with my radeon 8500? I really want tv tuner capabilities but I don't want to have to take out my newer card. also do we know for sure about the ability of it(I mean the radeon aiw) to receive an ntsc signal and play it without problems, I dont' care too much about the tv out my 8500 has that if I really need to use it for something. I'm searching newsgroups and google right now but havent' come across any answers yet.

As a TV card, not bad. As a video card(and if indeed it does only do PAL, then this is what u will be using it for) , the Voodoo3 3000 32MB for about $20 is a ton of a better deal.

V3 3000 AGP 32MB? They made such a thing? I thought that the chipset on those boards only supported 16MB of memory.

Btw, about the AGP 4X and 1.5v/3.3v issue - I recently (a few days ago) upgraded to an ECS P6S5AT mobo, with the SiS 635T chipset, which supports AGP 4X/AGP 2.0. The mobo makes no mention of AGP 1X/2X support, but my V3 3000 AGP 16MB card I picked up does at least boot in the AGP slot, even if I can't seem to get AGP to actually be enabled in Win98se (going to try booting W2K soon as well).

CompuVest are evil scummy scammers. I bought what was advertised as an ATI Radeon DDR Retail from them earlier this year only to recieve a non working Radeon SDR in bubblewrap from them.. They did credit me the card's price less shipping but...

I was pretty pissed, so I started digging around. They >used< to display a BizRate award but..:

Dear (me),

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It does appear at this time that store is not authorized to display the BizRate.com Customer Certified logo. We are forwarding this along for further investigation. We appreciate your help.

Is blank, and they cannot be found by searchning bizrate. This is a company with dismal reviews across the web (which I wish I'd known before ordering from them), who not only sent me the wrong product (which I doubt was accidental), but it was non-functional as well!

They are scum, and they also claim that
"We are rated at 4,5 gold stars by the BizRate business rating services" - well, see above
