Ridiculous post. Enough said.

If you're talking about that MSI firesale me and a couple of other ATers discussed at length a few days ago, both of them went back up in price.

Maybe some of the other manufacturers will follow suit -- those prices seemed to be pretty attractive.

Those prices are still in stock/effect at ZZF and newegg.

Competition brought better deals for all.

You call this competition? Where was NV's competitive prices before Radeon 4800 series? This seems to me as a cheap stunt rather than competition, you know whats fair competition? If each of the products have similar configuration and perform close to each other and offering same price- so user can make decisions based on reliability. This isn't the case...you've got 1.4 billion transistor GPU performing only 10% better than 4870. Just a few weeks back NV was downplaying DX10.1 even though it resolves issues related to DX10 and what we have now? Nothing...they are just going to bring another card in Q4 to with DX10.1 and GDDR5 and ripp people's wallets. I think NV and all it's supporters are just a bunch of jerks telling people what they want to hear.
Ridiculous post. Enough said.

Based on system loads we've seen for 4870/4870CF, and that X2 will come equipped with 2GB DDR5, is it possible to guess what we'll see in terms of idle/load for 4870 X2?

no they aren't, they are downright ridiculous, I didn't point it out that time like magreen did because such posts do not deserve to be acknowledged and responded to.

oh really?...yours isn't any better- all your half-witted posts, now all you need is a invitation for Focus Group and you are all set.

ok...if rollo says anything unbiased, he isnt doing his job...do you really think he is willing to risk free hardware by being objective...you know, its why focus groups exist

on the second point, of course its pathetic for a company to launch all new shiny graphic cards, and try to rake as much of their loyal (suckers?) customers at high prices, only to cut down prices significally after it turns out, the competition has pulled a rabbit out of the hat...whats is it? they are not standing by their own product all of the sudden? where is the confidence gone?

those are the two points that just cannot be denied

yup...caught him 2-3 times at least already...one cannot help but think it is his agenda to get in the free green hardware zone...but then again...i am just a noob since i dont have big enough number of posts, so i cant be possibly right

ping. first fanboy accusation of the day (it is 1am for me)
Score today: 1 nvidia, 0 AMD
Score yesturday: 2 nvidia, 1 AMD
Score two days ago: 3 nvidia, 2 AMD

maybe I am biased, I am being accused of being an nvidia fanboy more often then I am accused of being an AMD fanboi [/sarcasm]

PS. please check the video cards on my gaming rig and my the file sever.

Guys (and gals), this thread isn?t the place to discuss the focus group.

Please stick to discussing the 4870 X2 and associated technologies.

Thanks.

May have missed it in all the bickering/mouth-breathing, but why does 4870 X2 have 2GB? Could they not get the chips to share the mem pool?

Considering the DDR5 shortage, I'm a bit confused they would load this much mem onto one card...

And you will never be able to convince me that AMD/ATi would not be doing the exact same thing if they were in the same market position. It's the smart thing for a company to do. Make as much money as possible off of existing technology. Maximize profit margins. It's extremely frustrating for enthusiasts and those who are not fooled by a new badge or a plus sign, but again it's the smart business move. Turns out it might cost them. I myself am looking to upgrade out of my 8800 GTS. I'm waiting to see what the 4870XDeuce can do for me.

2 Gigs? 2 Gigs?!?!? Why.....that would give me an excuse to buy a new monitor.

Yea 2GB still surprises me, especially DDR5. But if they can do it for under $500 it will be a truly amazing card. Awaiting power and heat stats...

Said it a couple times already but it seems people just forget things. Back in 2002 when the 9700 PRO reigned supreme, it was just an extra 50$ more or so compared to the Geforce 4400, and better yet, when the FX came out and flopped, it was actually more expensive than the 9700 PRO, so I dont know about AMD, but back when ATi was on top of things, they DID NOT do it, you dont need any more evidence.

Whats more, as soon as AMD realized the 2900XT couldnt compete with the 8800 GTX, they lowered to price to 8800 GTS levels. If it were Nvidia, they would have pushed some obscure feature that the competition lacked to justify a higher pricing.

In short: Nvidia is the devil

Has there been any new word or rumor on the release date? Tom's and digitimes seem to predict a July release, others an August release.

Edit: Also, does anyone know if there is an NDA, and if so, when it expires?

It will be released in fourth week of July however real benchmarks will start to appear after July 15.

the rumors what they would get them to share, but all the latest reports say 2x1GB, meaning that was just a rumor.

The other one is on the left side of the fan... you can just barely see it in that pic.

Check the pics posted on the previous page for a better view of them.

I'm like messing with cooling solutions so I'm checking out the 4870 X2 cooler...

Having separate heatsinks for each GPU has one drawback in that the one farthest from the fan tends to run hotter due to hot air from the first heatsink being pushed through its fins. The solution, a one-piece heatsink, or a heatpipe connecting the two.

We've seen this pic of the 4870 X2 cooler

Check this one out, note the large heatpipe

Not sure which cooler we'll see with the finished product; but a heatpipe certainly makes sense. Cooling this card has required quite a bit of attention to the cooler I imagine.
