Thanks for the link, gotta love these Chinese sites always first out with it . I think this will be THE card for the foreseeable future, why would anyone bother buying a GTX260 when there's this.

I think 4800 is really aimed at DX10 because many optimizations in this design are related to DX 10 like geometry shader and there is 5-way superscalar SP etc. I am sure future drivers will definitely increase the overall performance.

Less then 12 hours from the announcement newegg prices dropped to 200 from 300... They are still there.

And yet days later and we have real review sites with actual cards on their hands, performing benchmarks... yes it will take a while to get your hands on one due to lack of stock buildup, but they cards are real.
They are consistently faster then 4850 without AA, about the same (sometimes faster, sometimes slower, depending on game) with AA.

Anyways... that inq "article" was their worst yet... I mean, it goes beyond trying to discredit themselves and into the realm of surreal. It is as if a 10 year old mentally handicapped child with an attitude is writing those.

Nice numbers indeed, these are averages I take it? Man both camps are running hot and using alot of power if those numbers aren't skewed. <3 to the price war this is sure to start! Now to grab some popcorn and watch the usual suspects 'discuss'...

How do you know the 9800 GTX+ is faster than the 4850? AT hasn't reviewed it yet. Please no links to toms' fartware, firing squad or other BS sites....

Yup thats bullshit, the GTX+ is about 4-5 fps faster than the GTX on the avg, thats obviously not enough to close the gap.. I wonder why the people who say the GTX+ is so fast didnt notice the normal GTX is also incredibly fast in the same benchs

Um...Tom's Hardware is actually one of the more reliable sites out there.

I usually look there, at Anandtech, and at the ardforums for reviews. And, frankly, some of Anandtech's reviews have been a little suspicious lately, imo.

Apparently, AMD is ready to release the HD4850+ version.

Link

Looks like AMDs taking a page out of nVIDIAs book. Does this mean we are going to see 9800GTX++?

This is getting rather silly imo.

Great news, its not silly since AMD has every right to compete against Nvidia's tactics and products, besides it gives us more choices to choose from.

Either way, the Expreview shows amazing results for the 4870 @ 300$... It really does match the 260 and sometimes even the 280... Who would have thought... This is sorta like the Nvidia 6800 comeback after the FX fiasco, except AMD's pricing is much more agressive, which is the great part

Sounds like they are just letting AIB partners clock cards as they want.
Same thing they did with old cards and that NV have been doing for ages.

I do find it funny that some 9800GTX cards have already been released which are faster than the reported clocks of the 9800GTX+, like the BFG OCX card which has faster core, memory and shader clocks than the GTX+.

The GTX++ will just be a 9800GTX+ OC version or whatever individual partners want to call it.

Its not really 4850+. They are giving more unlocking capabilities and better coolers. Not very uncommon with new cards...The 9800+ is silly because:

1) The card is being released at the same time as 4850.
2) They could have done this weeks earlier.

Exactly. Someone said ATI could learn from nV's marketing machine; perhaps they have. In the end, the return to competition benefits everyone...

Just checked the tests of the HD4870 at expreview. It's really impressive that the HD4870 beat the GTX260, especially once AA is turned on. And it only has 512MB vs. GTX260's 896MB.

I believe in some games a 1GB version of the HD4870 would help a little when running high resolutions + AA.

Nvidia will have no choice now but to lower the price of the GTX260 to match that of the HD4870, so that's good news for everyone

Ok I'm glad they came out with the driver and price drop but from your comment I don't think you understand what a paper launch is. What's bolded up there IS the definition of a paper launch. Reviewers have been officially given the cards by the manufacturer to bench them but the consumer can't buy them anywhere. (So you basically just said don't worry the house isn't on fire, it's just burning to the ground )

While I actually think that's just fine, (I like to know what's coming down the pipe), many many NVIDIOTS bitched up a storm at the fanATIcs every time ATI had to preview (paper lauch) a card to keep up with NV, but you couldn't buy the damn things for weeks after the preview. NV also said every launch would be a hard launch. This one isn't so they are scrambling.

be careful, they might be reading this forum! They'll start writing anti-taltamir articles before long no doubt...
