I am confused. Which is not hard to do when it comes to computers parts. Will somebody tell me which is the better/faster next high end video card? I am assuming everybody in the know, knows this by now. Please excuse if this has been answered already in this thread. Thank you.

nobody knows until they are both out.
Some people MIGHT know what the card is like for ONE company...
but:
1. They wouldn't break the NDA, it will be stupid of them.
2. They wouldn't be able to compare the two.

They seem to be overlooking the fact that the HD 4870 is clocked at 750MHz, which results in 24.0 GT/s. It's likely just a typo and they confused the 4850/4870 specs. There is no way that number is correct for the 4850, becuase it is definitely clocked at 625MHz and definitely does not have 38.4 TMUs.

Unfortunately, buyer beware: buy.com's "usually ships" only means they might have stock at their suppliers, not that they do for certain.

If you don't want to possibly be backordered for weeks it's safer to wait for newegg or mwave to get stock.

Do update us when the card is really shipped, since maybe they did get some early.

Usually means it's in-stock in my experience from ordering from them... have ordered products at release like this early from them and received. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Yeah I just posted in another forum and some people said the same thing about buy.com that sometimes they really do have stuff in really early and ship it out, and other times its a load of bull and it gets backordered right after you place your order. So I guess I will wait and see. I can always cancel during the week if they haven't shipped it out...

The 4850 was pushed back as there weren't enough 4870 ready for tomorrow. AMD wanted to released both 4870 and 4850 at the same time. Much better strategy than nV's release 280 tomorrow, then 260 later.

Agreed that this waiting is BS. I have a q4550, an Abit x38 and 1000W PSU just sitting here waiting for Crossfire.

According to specs HD4870 should be like HD3870 X2's theoretical performance numbers on single GPU and GT200 should be GT200-30 should be 9800 GX2 on single chip.
At this moment 9800 GX2 eats HD3870 X2 alive in game benchmarks. Even 8800 Ultra wins it

Have seen rumors all over the place, from $299 to $349.

The big question is lead time. With 4850's surfacing and still nothing from 4870, I'm wondering if they'll launch next week. Seems if they were launching with the 4850 something would be out there by now..

well, consider that the 4870 is a 4850 only with GDDR5 ram instead of GDDR3... and the delays in aquiring GDDR5... I expect price hikes on the 4870...

if the 4870x2 can really share the ram, then maybe we wouldn't be seeing any 4870s for a while due to ram amounts, and just 4870x2 GDDR5

steel6 let us know if you actually receive those cards. I wish they were sale in Canada. Am going on holiday soon and the june 25 date, makes buying quick - bad timing. I really want a better system and vista, but need the video card that supplies the rational.
