As much as I'd like to get an HD58x0, $300 is a bit too much. However, I'm hoping prices on the HD48x0s fall a bit more.

This is what I'm wondering. Did the 22nd thing come from a legit source?

From 2 articles at hexus.net:

"Our intel is that there will be between 50,000 and 100,000 Radeon HD 5800 series cards produced in the initial 40nm TSMC run, with a ratio of around 4:1 in favour of the 5870 over the 5850. We also gather that the channel - as opposed to OEMs - is likely to only get around ten percent of this."

"HEXUS has sampled a selection of sauces, and they're telling tales about how AMD won't be able to keep up with initial orders for its upcoming Radeon graphics cards.

Garnished with reports of a demand that's been unprecedented in recent years, the Radeon menu looks likely to be a three course serving of sweet and sour for AMD."

The good thing is that most people here and elsewhere will be too scared to shill out the $399 launch-price, saying "I'll get it when it drops $50". It won't drop $50 for a very long time when it's far more well worth your while to just be one of the first people to have one.

I think most people who don't wait to order one, once they're in stock, will get one. I plan on picking one up as soon as it shows up instock for the full 399. Those who hesitate for a few hours will lose out for sure.

Judging from the past, once the 2nd round of supply comes in the price might actually raise to 450 for a while. It wouldn't be shocking.

if you need a card that bad then go for it. I myself would never drop that much money on one though. I prefer to wait until prices have settled down and then I can get the most bang for buck. I paid $180 for the gtx260 with a game nearly a year ago and could still get 100 for that card. paying $400 for something that will likely be half that in 2 to 3 months is silly to me. if it doesnt drop that much then oh well I just wont buy it. after all I skipped the ridiculously priced 8800gtx too.

I believe $299 for the 5850, and $399 for the 5870.

I believe $259 for the 5850, and $379 for the 5870

Fixed. Internal slides to back this up as well.

My Delorean? Pretty sure I answered that question in my last post.

That is MSRP though, doesn't mean they come out at that price point however.

I really want to see some in depth reviews. I hope Anandtech doesn't forget about comparing the 5850 with the 4850x2 2GB. That's the real challenge for the 5850, not the GTX 285.
