I will buy the first 5870 i can find under 400. ZZF / Newegg /fry's / whatever. Hey faxon. Could you scrounge up some PLU's for the 5870's from frys so I can check on delivery information.

That would be prime

I think most people who don't wait to order one, once they're in stock, will get one. I plan on picking one up as soon as it shows up instock for the full 399. Those who hesitate for a few hours will lose out for sure.

Judging from the past, once the 2nd round of supply comes in the price might actually raise to 450 for a while. It wouldn't be shocking.

if you need a card that bad then go for it. I myself would never drop that much money on one though. I prefer to wait until prices have settled down and then I can get the most bang for buck. I paid $180 for the gtx260 with a game nearly a year ago and could still get 100 for that card. paying $400 for something that will likely be half that in 2 to 3 months is silly to me. if it doesnt drop that much then oh well I just wont buy it. after all I skipped the ridiculously priced 8800gtx too.

I wasn't personally attacking you, just saying how it goes everytime a revolutionary card is released. This is the new 8800GTX or 9700 Pro.
It won't be $200 in 2 to 3 months though. That's wishful thinking, the type I was describing. Nvidia won't even have a card out by then, and who knows if it'll be competitive at all. A card like this could raise in price until Nvidia releases something and it's got to be good.

hahahaha not for $399 it isn't. It should MSRP $299. Then it'd be interesting. Until then, it can sit on the shelf at the r/etailer.

Bang for the buck really can't be measured just by the price one pays. The other aspect that needs to be considered is how long someone would use the card(This can be estimated by looking at how fast it is). If you bought a $300 card at launch and used it for 3 years when someone else buys it for $150 and uses it for half as long as you used your card, they didn't necessarily get a better deal since you both had an equal time used vs dollars spent ratio. There's also the fact that the person who buys at launch gets to experience games with higher visuals for that much longer than the person who waits for prices to drop.

There have been times in history where buying at launch has definitely paid off(Radeon 9700, Geforce 8800 GTX) and other times where prices came down really fast(GTX200, 4800).

You completely leave out a significant factor: The person who waits to buy it a year and a half later because his current GPU plays existing games just fine, not only saves $150 and can earn interest on that initial $300 he doesn't outlay for that first year and a half, but also has no perceived actual downside to not having the other GPU. Meanwhile the person who buys it too early, not only is out the $300 plus interest for that first year and a half, but also spent twice as much just to get to the point a year and a half later when the newer card actually becomes significantly useful beyond what an existing GPU would have provided up to that point.

That's a per user factor. While you or I may have a card at the moment that is more than satisfactory, someone else may or may not. It depends on gaming preferences as well. I'm sure that people who actually game at 2560x1600 and like to crank visuals are very hungry for more performance asap.

As is yours. As is whether or not $300 is affordable for a person. It's all relative. That's my point: There's just as much (if not more) reason not to buy a new product right away for MSRP or over MSRP, than there is to do so.

Looks good. Finally a single die card that's worth the upgrade. We've had incremental upgrades since G80. But is it worth the upgrade? No games other than console ports which most of us max out anyway with GT200 and RV770.

will do. idk when we will be getting them though, but i will be keeping an eye on our stock. usually when a product launches we sell it at MSRP like everyone else so our pricing wont be any different until price drops start kicking in.

With regards to video cards; isn't the general consensus still Sapphire for ATI, eVGA for nVidia?

What do they mean by that?
