I'd say it's doing better vs the 295 than the GTX 280 did vs the 9800GX2 at launch. Look at a review from June 2008, the GX2 was faster. Driver improvements have seen the GTX 280 improve enough to usually be faster - but even then not always. If the 5870 improves too then we're looking at similar if not better results. So if Nvidia wants to beat the 5870 then they need a bigger improvement over last gen than last time. Not saying it's not possible, but the 5870 hype seems pretty real to me - especially considering it's $400 and not $650.

Awwww, poor baby. You waited all this time and a single gpu card still has problems beating a dual gpu card. What did you expect?

Of course, the fairer test is comparing a dual gpu card to a dual gpu card......and if the 5870 Crossfire results are any indication, the 5870 X2 card will slay the 295 with ease, which will be its competition.

The fact that the 5870 kept up with the 295 in most cases is by itself impressive.

Maybe for a short while. There will more than likely be a GX2. But yea, if you can get the performance of a dual solution in a single card, that is the way to go.

However, if you already have the dual solution, I cant selling it and sidegrading to the single. Unless there is some other factor involved, like power savings.

It's impressive.. but three bills should be all it takes to get one. At this price point, how much for 5870 X2? Are they indending on ~$700 for X2? Hurry up nV..

Anand's 48xx series reviews literally have me like, salivating, for the review on the 58xx series.

Wrong reason. What happens is that games change, and later games will always favor newer architecture. Plus, newer games require more memory, so the 9800GX2 struggles with it's 512 MB per GPU.
