Of course, the fairer test is comparing a dual gpu card to a dual gpu card......and if the 5870 Crossfire results are any indication, the 5870 X2 card will slay the 295 with ease, which will be its competition.
The fact that the 5870 kept up with the 295 in most cases is by itself impressive.

I'd say it's doing better vs the 295 than the GTX 280 did vs the 9800GX2 at launch. Look at a review from June 2008, the GX2 was faster. Driver improvements have seen the GTX 280 improve enough to usually be faster - but even then not always.
