Talk about BS'ing the customers!
the saddest thing I see if that ONE 6990 wont do Eyefinity 6. wtf. 4xmdp 1xdvi
they have a 5870 that costs 1/3rd that that will do 6 mdp's
Realistically speaking if you can fit 6 displays on your desk, you have enough space for a large tower. At which point Tri-Fire HD6950 combo unlocked to HD6970s for $750 walks all over a single HD6990. The bottom line, this card makes no sense whatsoever unless you buy 2 of them and watercool them.

And that setup might walk over 2 of them too, tri scales almost always better than quad.
AMD is claiming quad fire will scale 80-100% with the 6990

out of stock,that was quick
My thoughts too...
for 709$ for the 6990, and your besically getting 2x 6970s.
The cheaper 6970s go for around 320$ so double up for crossfire would be 640$ (~60$ cheaper than the 6990).
On the other hand... 2x 580 in SLI are not much faster, and the cheapest 580 card is about 499$ (500$ x 2 = 1000$ for a cheap 580 SLI setup).
6990 is about ~300$ cheaper than the 580 SLI setup, and gives almost same performance at 2560x resolutions. Probably beating the 580 SLI at 5000x resolutions.
^above is apperntly enough to sell the 6990.
AMD Radeon HD 6990 vs. GeForce GTX 580 SLI
In this comparison the configurations are worlds apart. The reason is the pricing, the GeForce GTX 580 right now is still around $500. Therefore, SLI is $1000. This is a whopping $300 more expensive than a single Radeon HD 6990. However, our evaluation has revealed that this extra $300 does give you a better gameplay experience in almost every situation. In every game we played the GeForce GTX 580 SLI did give us the highest framerates. Beyond that though, GTX 580 SLI provided the smoothest gameplay. There was less choppiness with SLI and it seemed lower framerates felt smoother on GTX 580 SLI than it did with 6990 or 6970 CFX. If you've got the cash to burn, you can't beat GTX 580 SLI for true multi-display gaming performance.
I don't agree, in fact, I think most reviews show the gf110 have picked up performance since Cayman launch.

Even at surround resolutions, nothing outperforms gtx 580 SLI

Hardware canucks isnt being fair to the 6990s.
Hes testing games in 1920x1200 + 2560x1600.
Anyways 15% slower, but cost ~40% less. (700$ 6990 vs 2x 580's for 500$ (1000$ total))
700$ x 1.40 (+40% ) = 980$
6990 is more than 40% cheaper.
at those low resolutions... yes the 580 is faster by the amounts you show above.
HOWEVER... what happends at 5760x1080 resolutions? (people that buy these game at 5700x res)
Im pretty sure at those resolutions the 6990 beats the 580 SLI in FPS on avg. in most games (because it has more memory).
People that buy a 6990, wont play games at 1920x1200 resolutions or lower, it makes no sense to get that powerfull a setup for it.
