ATI 8500 APG Appeture size

With APG 4x enabled what should i set the appeture size in my bios? and should i enable things like fastwrite? btw i am running a Soyo Dragon plus with XP1600 and 768mb of crucial ddr

Set your AGP Aperture size to either 64 MB or 128 MB. You may get a slight performance increase/decrease if you set it to 128 MB. Fastwrites haven't been proven to offer much of a performance gain, and can cause problems on some system configurations. I would advise against using fastwrites if your are able to use it.

Leave it at 128 MB unless you have problems. Also AFAIK the Radeon doesn't support fastwrites.

I changed my AGP to 128 from 64 and gained 300 in 3d20001. Now I didn't figure it to increase that much. Got me wondering.
I went from 7998 to 8314.

Some folks over at the rage3d board say that the 8500 DOES in fact support fast writes. It does not make a difference for me if i enable/disable it however.

I see over at rage3d forums there are some new "leaked" drivers available for the 8500 as well. Looks like Ati ought to have some new "official" drivers out soon.

Actually I found fast writes does make a minor performance difference. If it disable it, when I run directx diagnostics, agp texture acceleration will be disabled. In q3 I would lose about 5 fps when benchmark it. With fast write enabled in the bios then agp texture acceleration will be enabled too.

I know some people have problems running radeon 8500 with fast writes enabled, but I dont seem to have any compatibility problems at the moment.
