While $299 would be a low price for a 9700 Pro from a reputable (IMO) store like Circuit City, remember that you can still find some "red PCB" 9500s for under $200 that you may be able to soft mod to become 9700 Pros. AllStarShop still has some left, though they don't guarantee the mod will be successful.

Id imagine you could pricematch to Compusa or other for $260. Compusa has it for $399, so you could use their 110% pm, and have no rebates or anything.

I think the BB will be visited by me at the sound of the bell in the morning. Maybe even tonite. Things with a great pm opportunity have been known to "be out of stock" for no apparent reason.

Buy today, pm on Monday. I am going now. I will play the game smarter this time around.

I suspect the 9700 will be <$299 MSRP when the next generation of cards come out.

YaY!! I was THIS CLOSE ( |----| ) to buying a 9700 Pro from Best Buy yesterday .. it was a $349 open box as opposed to the normal $399 regular price. Thanks for the post, I may have to scope out Best Buy this evening as well.

I'm on this like white on rice. But I have 100 bucks in store credit/giftcards, so it's going to be 189 + tax for me.

"110% Pricematching" is a crappy term. It SHOULD be "100% + 10% of the 100%." 110% sounds like the bullsh*t phrase "we're working for YOU." Stupid retailspeak.

THUS, since the difference is roughly 100 bucks, you get an additional 10 bucks off for a total cost of 289.99 before tax. Sufficed to say, BB isn't going to be convinced this is for a school system. This baby's going in my main system. 128MB of frame buffer will be fine until next March.

I'm also probably going to buy tonight and PM tomorrow.

I figure a Radeon 9700 Pro (especially one for so cheap in my case) will do me for AT LEAST the next year and a half (until the first DX9 games are scheduled to hit), and for 189 (for me and my XMas credit) it's a good deal - hell, I might just buy one of those silent ZM-80A Zalman coolers from SVC. I *WAS* saving the credit up for a GF FX (before I realized how much they sucked/*blew*), or a Radeon 9900 Pro - just a reminder for those NOT "in the know": the next graphics card from ATI will be the Radeon 9800 Pro/non-Pro, and it'll be announced mid-March. The Radeon 9900 Pro will follow somewhat thereafter, still having the R350 chip, only packing 256MB of DDR-1. There is no DDR-2 on the horizon for ATI until the R400 chipset sometime near the end of the year/early 2004.

Anyone know if there are any valid 10% off PC peripheral coupons out? There is ONE "$10 giftcard for a 50 dollar purchase" coupon out, but BB has always been stingy with the "PM + Coupon" thing. Never hurts to try, though.

If worse comes to worse, Circuit City has REALLY cleaned up their act from a few years ago. If you guys don't mind paying 289.99, I'm sure they'd knock an extra 10 bucks off the price if you made a fuss you could pricematch elsewhere. 289 in their pockets is better than 289 in a competitor's pocket, speaking corporatively.

I this flyer in today's newspapers?

I just checked CC's weekly online flyer and had no mention of it.

I was gonna buy a PowerColor 9700 non-pro for $250, but hell, I'm all over this if I can get it.

The 9800 will be .13mu, too. The 9900 and 9800 share the same core, but the 9900 will be running with 256MB of frame buffer.
