THUS, since the difference is roughly 100 bucks, you get an additional 10 bucks off for a total cost of 289.99 before tax. Sufficed to say, BB isn't going to be convinced this is for a school system. This baby's going in my main system. 128MB of frame buffer will be fine until next March.

I'm also probably going to buy tonight and PM tomorrow.

I figure a Radeon 9700 Pro (especially one for so cheap in my case) will do me for AT LEAST the next year and a half (until the first DX9 games are scheduled to hit), and for 189 (for me and my XMas credit) it's a good deal - hell, I might just buy one of those silent ZM-80A Zalman coolers from SVC. I *WAS* saving the credit up for a GF FX (before I realized how much they sucked/*blew*), or a Radeon 9900 Pro - just a reminder for those NOT "in the know": the next graphics card from ATI will be the Radeon 9800 Pro/non-Pro, and it'll be announced mid-March. The Radeon 9900 Pro will follow somewhat thereafter, still having the R350 chip, only packing 256MB of DDR-1. There is no DDR-2 on the horizon for ATI until the R400 chipset sometime near the end of the year/early 2004.

They say 110% of the difference.

the 9700 is Dx9 compliant. I want a Zalman (for my cpu, currently have a thermoengine) also! U think the 9700Pros fan will me noticeably louder? Ati has said the the R300-R350 can handle DDR2 already. It is up to the card maker to decide whether or not to implement it.

I don't think they'll be noticably louder, no (at least not NEARLY as loud as the dustbuster on the GF FX Ultra). My remark about the 9800 and 9900 using DDR-1 is because everything points to that being so. A 128MB DDR-2 GF FX Ultra is 399, the non-Ultra being 329. DDR-2 has incredibly low yields right now, hence a very low quantity. nVidia snapped a good supply up already, so it's probably not going to be until the R400 when ATI starts using it.

I want a Zalman ZM-80A because the less fans in my computer the better. Also, there WILL be non-Pro 98 and 9900s. They just probably won't be ATI-boxed.

In-Store Price Guarantee ? If, within 30 days (14 days for computers, monitors, printers and notebooks, camcorders, digital cameras and radar detectors) of your purchase from Best Buy, you find a local competitor (excluding Internet competitors) offering a lower price on an available product of the same brand and model, we'll refund the difference plus another 10% of the difference. Just bring us a current ad or other verifiable written proof of the lower price, plus your original Best Buy sales receipt to claim your refund. This offer good only on all new in-the-box products of the same brand and model that is availble in-store at any other local authorized retailer. It does not apply to competitor's one-of-a-kind or other limited quantity offer, or when a bonus or free offer (such as special financing program or manufacturer's rebate) is included in the purchase. Offer does not apply to BestBuy.com pricing. All returns exchanges and price adjustments must be made in the country of original purchase. See a Customer Service Representative for details.

*In California, excludes cellular, digital and PCS phones and pagers.

If they hassle you return it right then, after abusing the manager of course.

Don't forget Circuit City is on the MSN deal and eBates' 1% for Circuit City

Some people could walk away with a 9700 Pro for 199 or a little more.

As for the "buy now, go back tomorrow" method - it pays NOT to open the card. I've found they bitch less if you haven't opened the product. It doesn't make a difference, but it works for me.

Actually, they're most likely in the back, ted. They HAVE to have SOME in stock. Kinda like when Best Buy and CompUSA put "Minimum of X at each store" in some of their ads when they KNOW it's going to be a desirable item. I think it's now a law in most states. Besides - if they don't have it, you could always say you want the AIW as a substitute for their "Bait and...release" tactics.

One could have bought a Sapphire Radeon 9700pro for $270 shipped two weeks ago. Now $299 is a hot deal for one of these. Darn Nvidia and their lack of competition! I find this trend disturbing.

I find that I don't need 256MB of frame buffer, the Radeon 9800 and 9900 are essentially going to only be using faster RAM and a more efficient core speed/design....which might net 20-30fps over the 9700 Pro. Big fuggin' deal. With my Christmas credit I can get a card that performs just as well (and better in some cases) than a GF FX Ultra for 189 plus tax. I (and I'm sure a lot of other people) can't argue with that. ESPECIALLY when the card is the testbed NOW for all the games that will be coming out in the foreseeable future.

DX9 games aren't on the horizon until about Spring of next year, when I should have MORE gift credit saved up.

Oh, and guidance for the hunters tomorrow in Northern VA. Sterling and Reston stores are OUT. I got the last card at Fair Lakes. No word on Dale City, Springfield, Bailey's Crossroads, since it was 8:15 at night and we could only make Fair Lakes or Reston in time. There are gonna be a LOT of these sumbitches on eBay come Monday. "BUY IT NOW ONLY 339.99 WHAT A DEAL!!!!!"

I suppose if you're a prick and bought TEN of them or something, cleaning out an entire geographical area, clearing twenty bucks' profit on each wouldn't be a bad deal...screw you guys, whereever you are. You made an hour of my life a living hell tonight.

ATi R300 in hand. I live in the boonies so its an hour drive to town. 1/16th mile visibility fog on the way up. Snow/sleet on the way back.

Bloomington, Il Circuit City has none and will have none. Manager said they have a hard time keeping them in stock

I stopped by there just to see if they had any in case BB was out. Picked up an MX700 mouse there to PM with Officemax ($39.99) on Monday.

BB had 2 9700 Pro's and I grabbed one of them. Stockboy said they wouldn't get more till the end of the week (maybe). So, anyone from around there or Illinois State students better "git to gittin" if you want the last one.

I think for $299 I might get this...

The 9800 will be .13mu, too. The 9900 and 9800 share the same core, but the 9900 will be running with 256MB of frame buffer.

Geez, what game needs 256mb buffer???

and what computer needs more than 640K of memory? there is only one certainty about computers: there is no certainty.

I find it really weird that most of the larger retailers lowered the price of this card at the same time

but I am still gonna pick one up today , but I have to go in stealth cause the little woman shouldn't know about this purchase

Does the fact that all three of the major retailers lowered their prices at the same time possibly indicate that ATi will officially lower prices soon? Maybe we'll start seeing street prices drop to around $250 in the next week or two.

LOL

talk to one of the managers and get him fired. I work at Best Buy and that is called imboarding. Greatly frouned upon. Makes the business look bad.

What you should do is take the Replacement back and get the radeon 9700 Pro for 279.99

I just went to my CC for a set of headphones. They had 2 9700 Pro's on the shelf for $299. I just don't think it's gonna be worth upgrading from my ti4600

'course they do have that return policy....
Would it apply to computer hardware?

That's what I'm wondering as well. I want to get a stupid new AthlonXP today too and the moronic store is closed!! What kind of crappy kind of puter store is closed on a Sunday? (This kind)

Ordering stuff from NewEgg is cheap, but waiting for your toys to arrive sucks.
