I don't think this deal will work. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you had to purchase the card through the trade-up web page in order to get the $50 back since it says that ATi will charge you "the Trade-In Price plus the Trade-in Credit", and that the "Trade-in credit will be refunded upon return of your old graphics board."

From my understanding, if you're buying it for $199 without adding the trade-in credit too (which is $50), then the deal won't work.

It also says in the FAQ:

03. How do I order a card?
By visting the ATI Trade-Up Program Page.

So what you really need to pay is $199.00 (Trade-in Price) + $50.00 (Trade-in Credit) = $249.00 - $50 (Trade-in Credit - once ATi receives your old card) = $199.00

does it matter how worthless the video card I send them? I'd like to send in a 512K trident ISA card.

Just got in on this. Hope the trade-in works. I wish I could trade in more than one video card for some more credit

The trade in only works for the AIW 9600 XT. For all the other cards, the prices are either same (9800 Pro)or higher (AIW 9800). They need to update the trade in program's prices.

Where does it say that?

On the Terms and Conditions page of Trade-In Credit Form that the 9800 PRO (both 128 and 256MB versions are accepted) along with AIW 9800 Pro 128MB, 9600XT, and AIW 9600XT 128MB

But I'm gonna call in the morning just to confirm

I ordered it for a co-worker who was looking for a good gaming card for her son. On the face of it, you pay $179.10 and then get $50 when you send your old card. Careful reading of the trade-in form doesn't show any gimmiks, buts or ifs (except "it's our decision whether to send you $50 or not"). But that's what credit cards are for! My receipt shows $179.10. If they decide to charge me $229.10, a simple call to Amex will fix things. If they decide not to honor the $50, it's still a decent deal, and I'm quite sure Amex will take care of that too.

Also, you get the $199 price directly, without going through any special links, like trade-in pages, etc. So I doubt it they'll charge you $199 + $50. Go to www.ati.com, click on BUY, select USA, and this card pops at $199 right on the 1st page (while supplies last).

From one of the page they stated that:
"NOTE: You will be charged the Trade-In Price plus the Trade-in Credit. The Trade-in credit will be refunded upon return of your old graphics board. "
That means $199 + $50

The thing is ATI has the 9800pro for the limited time offer price of $199 so I don't know if they will honor the $199-$50.

I think that wording was from when the card was priced at $249. Otherwise that makes no sense whatsoever. They are selling the card with no trade-in for $199. Why would anyone pay $249, send in a video card and end up paying $199 that they could have gotten without a trade-in?

I just got one. I entered through the trade-in page. ALthough it shows $199.00 trade-in price, from the trade-in page it sends you to the order page, which is only $199.00 total. You will get the $50.00 credit when they recieve your old card. It has to work! I was billed $179.10, and will get the $50.00 credit for the trade-in. Don't forget the 10% coupon code.

Geeez........how hard is it to read people?

Go to ATI's main page, mouse over the upper nav. bar on products, clcik on the trade-up link.....takes you to THIS PAGE.

Look at the second product in the first section, the one marked RADEON Product Line......lo and behold, it's a RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB AGP card at ..... GASP...... $199.

Click on the Trade-Up Now! link at the right end of the box (the one marked US) and it puts a 9800 PRO 128MB AGP video card in your cart at $199. Put the code in for the 10% off and it comes to $179 and change.

NOWHERE does it say they charge you the $50 credit for a $50 return later (which would be rather stupid.....to take $50 just to give it back later..............that'd be no credit at all, just a loan to ATI.)

NOWHERE on the form that you can download from that same box does it say INVALID with the PROMO that's going on, we're going to charge you the $50 credit up front, etc. etc.

It only asks that you send in ANY video card within 15 days of ordering with the form, the UPC code from the box (it's a retail card you're getting, not a brown/OEM packaged thing), and a copy of the receipt (which shows you bought a trade-up product.)
