not to crap thread or something, but...
very little performance difference between 9800XT and 9800/9700 PRO. These prices are coming down even more once the x800 starts shipping. So if u already have a 9700pro/9800 non-pro, its better to wait.

Hey Just a quick question,

Upon installing the vga silencer, do i need to use some sort of thermal grease or something? If so, which one?

Thanks,
Tom

The vga silencer comes w/ some thermal grease. But popular conscent would tell you to get some Artic Silver 5.

But definitely put *something* between the VGA Silencer and the GPU, be it grease or a thermal pad.

This seems like a pretty good deal. Sure, that $300 6800 with Far Cry looks tempting (~$275 factoring out the game), but it has "only" 128MB RAM. If you're OK with a lower resolution or lower framerates, then this 9800P should be pretty good for the money, and really good compared to a ~$205 128MB 9800P. It even seems to have DDR, not DDR2 memory, meaning it may be more OCable than DDR2 9800Ps. This really looks like a 9800XT on a budget, and stacks up well to the ~$275 6800 in terms of price/performance. It scores about the same as a SM3 6800 in Far Cry v1.2 at both 10x7 and 12x10 w/AAxAF, according to Firingsquad, and it's probably not more than 20% slower (in line with its 20% price difference) in most games at 10x7/12x10 AA+AF benches (Splinter Cell and Halo are exceptions where a 6800 far outperforms a 9800XT).

Here are some AA+AF benchmarks that include a 9800XT and 6800 with their latest drivers, 4.7 and 61.45.

OMFG no damnit lol.

Well time to Ebay my 9800 pro 256 that I just ordered ;/
Yeah I totally did not know that the Gigabyte X800 comes with Component video out

I have the ATI DVI-Component adapter and it goes up as high as 9800 as far as compatibility.
I got the 9800 for hookups to my big screen, now that it comes standard with the x800...

ugg... why didn't I see that before ;O

So they have done it twice, both times late at night... I suspect they are testing the water to see whether they should be planning on lowering the price yet. You think?
223 is about right for the price : Performance ratio, what with the 128MB performing just about the same at stock speeds. I mean if you are going to OC it, have to pay for and pain for better cooling, not to mention killing your warranty. The 6800 and 6800GT sound like some great cards, but this was already a stretch for me, just a sucker for a deal.

They may or may not come down in price. If there are any on the market that is.
The Radeon 9700 Pro for the LONGEST time was always going for $200 until more
recently.

Read somewhere late this year ATI is supposed to release *their* nex gen (beyond the optimized versions of existing tech that the x800 represents), so that should help.

next gen being new architexture, but likely they will be PCI-ex. Maybe they'll have an AGP version, alot of times companies try to protect such a "niche strategy" by not talking about it. But think about how many users they'll gain if they do/lose if they don't.
