Ati 9800 Pro - Smartgart shows 4x AGP and fastwrites off no matter what I do.

I have Abit IC7-G, Bios 17, Catalyst 3.8. Bios has 8x AGP enabled. In windows when I go to video settings/smartgart it shows 4x AGP and Fastwrites OFF.

Please help.

Hmm. I have an IC7 amd 9700P and it shows 8X and on. Do you have the latest Intel inf chipset drivers installed?

Yup, and latest Direct X. I even reflashed bios and reinstalled drivers.

Have you tried a different catalyst ? MY 9600pro didn't like 3.6

AGP Fastwrites more often than not only causes problems with Ati cards, and Ati/Omega recommend turning this feature off. Also I've never seen any increases in speed when I enable it, so I always leave it off.

Yes, I agree but what about AGP 4x instead of 8x.

reguarding your 4x issue, if it shows 4x off.. then what does it use? isnt 4x and 8x incompatible with 1x and 2x?

May be I wasn't clear, I appologise.
It shows that the AGP is running at 4x instead of 8x.
Fastwries is OFF.

Did you try reinstalling the Intel inf again? Try the latest version 5.0.2.1003 if you haven't already.

I am running a 9800 Se with fastwrites on with no problems.

You may need to check your bios settings also. If it is set to off there, the software can never turn it on.

Same thing with your AGP speed. Make sure the BIOS isn't set to 4x.

cat 3.8s ? i had simialr problems with radeon 9700pro .. i just left it the way it is. Someone suggested uninstalling SMARTGART but i didn't do it and i could careless cause it's not effecting performance.

Fixed it. Here are the steps.

Boot into safe mode, uninstall videocard all drivers and run ati and nvidia clean utilities.
Reboot, install drivers - good to go.
