ATI AIW 7500 and winXP w/ dual display...can't get tv tuner working =(

Hey guys....

I just installed XP on my new x15-36lp and everything worked great, except the tv tuner for my aiw7500 card. When I open the ati tv program, it says "The TV application failed to initialize the capture device. If the problem persists, you may need to restart your system." and "The TV player failed to initialize the video. Check the Windows Device Manager to ensure that the correct video driver has been installed and is working properly before attemption to restart TV."

When I restart, I get the same error message. I still had winME installed on my old hard drive, and when I boot into that, the tv works fine. I tried both the 6.13.10.6037 and the 6.13.10.6043 display drivers along with the 6.13.10.5118 WinXP Capture drivers. I also tried both MMC 7.5 and 7.6 to no avail. Is there something I'm missing? Anyone with a this card and XP please let me know how you got it to work. THANKS!!!

I just found out why it doesn't work. I'm running a dual display with a pci voodoo3 card, and when I disable my secondary display, the tv works fine. This is wierd because I have my ati card as primary, and the v3 as secondary (in bios and in the windows display properties), so I should still have the tv working. Is this an xp issue? Any suggestions?

I have seen posts with this exact same problem here at Anandtech.

Why don't you try other TV tunning software like DScaler or PowerVCR II .

I am trying out PowerVCR II with much better results than the ATI MMC software.

I don't think software will help, video input is disabled with a secondary card enabled. I just disabled my secondary card when I wanted to capture video, or watch TV on my Computer when I use my V3 with my AIW cards, its been awhile so maybe a newer driver will work, but I don't believe so.

The V3 is in pci slot 4. I have an audigy in slot 5, a 2940u2w in slot 3, and an ultra100 in slot 2.

Yes. My TV tuner has always worked with multi monitors in WinXP, with ATI MMC software the picture is very grainy though on about 40 % of the channels, but I can click and drag the TV display window to my secondary monitor if I wish. Even click the full screen mode and it goes to full screen on whatever monitor I happen to be watching it on.

With PowerVCR II 3.0 Deluxe my channels are much more clearer but when I try to click and drag the TV display window to my secondary monitor the picture does not work, only sound.

I managed to get Dscaler working (sort of) but could not get the sound to work, only got white noise. When I tried to click and drag the TV display window to my secondary monitor, again the picture does not work and sound remains white noise, so I flushed that program. But I hear that alot of people get it to work fine.

Doesnt the ATI AIW 7500 have dual outputs?.. Hmm I guess now that I think of it, probably not.. Considering there is a significant amount of hardware on there already.. Plus the need for space for the other connectors...

Just curious because my regular ATI Radeon 7500 has dual outputs.. one for flat panel, and one for standard CRT.

Yeah, the AIW doesn't have dual outputs, only a dvi/vga output and a tv output. Here's what I found on ati's tech support site:

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My ATI TV Wonder and MMC worked first time after initial install.

I think you may be getting driver conflicts with your Voodoo card. Things you may try to isolate the problem are:

1) Download, install and try free trial version of PowerVCR, you can get it here. This will at least tell you if TV tuning with your secondary monitor activated will work with other tunning software.

2) Try a different PCI vid card to see if you still have same problem (if this is an option).
