I'm a little confused

so I would pay $300 plus shipping and tax for AIW 8500 64MB
then get $50 rebate back, or is it $250 and $50 rebate?

edit, no more confusion:

that's a pretty good deal. The cheapest retail 8500 64Mb I could come up with was $280 (before shipping and tax)

The 128MB seems like an even better deal

up to 4-6 weeks to ship though, hope that's just to cover themselves?

Sounds like $250 and then they send you a box which has a $50 rebate on it...good deal.

Anyone know if these things are worth it? I'm in the market for a good VIVO card so I can record stuff off Directv thru S-Video input. My friend has an AIW, but I think its with the first Radeon chip. I don't really need this card for gaming as I already have my Geforce3 Ti200. All I want is to capture the output from my Directv receiver. Any reason to get this over the earlier AIW card?

I can get the AIW 8500 128 for $250 after rebate. I think I'll go for it. I've been wanting to get rid of my GF3 for a while plus the AIW features would just come in handy.

I guess it is

$350 - 100 MIR = $250 for ATI Radeon 8500 128MB DV

AND

$250 - 50 MIR = $200 for ATI Radeon 8500 64MB DV

Pretty nice deal...just wish the 128MB one was just $50 cheaper, then I would do it.

You're looking at it wrong: I can trade my 512k ISA VGA card and get *more* for it than market.

Usually you don't get much discount with these trade-up programs, especially since you pay the exhorbitant MSRP, but the $100 MIR makes it worth it.....I have an el-cheapo video card, a Banshee and a GF2MX any of which I could trade in for $150 in value...
I might actually give this a whirl...

i thought this deal was pretty good but it's not really good at all. the 64mb and 128mb one is the 8500DV version which is pretty pointless unless you plan to connect a digital camcorder to your AIW. you can get the 8500 64mb AIW and 8500 128mb AIW for 160 and 220 respectively from newegg.

Keep Dreaming!

You can get the 64mb retail AIW for $289 at newegg & you can get the 128mb AIW for $389 at newegg + $10 shipping.

You can get a refurbished/OEM 8500 AIW for $199 shipped from newegg which is what I did.

actualy you're right. damn ATI makes so many variations. i overlooked that it's not an AIW. sorry! but newegg does have the 7500 AIW for 149.00. i think i might go for that and sell my geforce 2. should cut the cost to around 100.

This deal's not just hot, it's dead sexy. Check out the VIVO roundup posted on Anandtech today. The AIW Radeon 8500 128MB not only has the extra memory, but also the higher clock speeds (275/275). The Radeon 8500LE has 128MB of memory, but lower clock speeds. Somehow though (through driver optimizations, I imagine) the 8500LE has better performance than its equivalently clocked 64MB counterpart.

At this price (~$250), the AIW Radeon 8500 128MB would have easily garnered the Editor's Choice that was given to its less expensive brothers.

does anyone know if the 8500 AIW has anything over the 7500 AIW that warrants spending an extra 100+ bux?

HowTF can Newegg charge MORE than ATI itself? ATI = $350 (AND there's a $100 rebate). Newegg = $389 + $10 (is there even a rebate?)

HOW???

this is a really hot deal if you can wait 4-6 weeks for shipping of a new card and are in the market for a all-in-wonder type card

think about it -- retail price for the aiw 8500 is $400, aiw8500dv is $300. here ati is selling them to you for $350 and $250 respectively, and tossing in a $100/50 mir! final price comes out to ~$250 for the aiw8500 and ~$200 for the aiw8500dv. that is well below what the going rate for these cards even at the cheapest etailers!

and better yet, it seems you can mail back any old video card. i had expected there to be some sort of restriction on video generation, but according to the faq nothing is specified, other than an old video card.

these are exceptional prices on the aiw, which if you check out the anandtech review posted recently, came out on top. if you want to wait longer, maybe matrox will release a newer better version, but that will be at least $400 seeing as how their more than a year old g450 is still selling for $230. nvidia personal cinema is another option, but it hasnt matured yet and is also quite pricey.

I own the 8500 AIW & 7500 AIW. The remotes are the same. You also might want to clarify GOBS of power.

yeah the 7500 seems to have the same packed in extras as the 8500. the 8500 takes digital camcorder though, which is cool if you really own a digital camcorder. that really much only leaves the "GOBS" of power. is there really enough "GOBS" to spend an extra $100?

They don't charge more than ATI thats how.

How do you figure?
ATI- $399 8500 AIW 128mb
ATI- $299 8500 AIW 64mb

Newegg- $389 8500 AIW 128mb
Newegg- $289 8500 AIW 64 mb

Looks like Neweggs got em beat by $10 but Neweggs not in the business of doing rebates on used video cards.

That, and the 7500 is still supported in Win98, if that's an important point for you. I just noticed this the other day when browsing the ATI site. As of right now, the 8500 series doesn't do anything but Win2K, XP, and Me(!).

but isn't that a PLUS that the 7500 is supported in more platforms than the 8500? that would be a disadvantage to the 8500

well since i'm not entirely thrilled with the 3d gaming performance of my 8500dv i would not move down to the 7500 unless you simply cannot afford more or gaming is unimportant to you
