A friend of mine has a 9800Pro AIW and we can't figure out how to capture or even view content from a camcorder connected to the video input dongle. We have the latest Catalyst control center installed, but I see no way of selecting inputs in that software. We also tried Pinnacle Studio, where the AIW shows as an input option, but then we get a "device error" as soon as we tell it to start capturing.

How the heck does this thing work?

I had that same problem. There was a bug in the multimedia center. You should try an earlier version. That fixed it for me. (that was their answer in the support email they sent me too)

I don't recall seeing a "multimedia center" anywhere. He's running Windows XP MCE already, that doesn't see the video input from the camcorder either.

First off, the ATi All In Wonder doesn't work with Windows Media Center. Statements have been made by ATi that in the future it will, but as of right now it doesn't. So forget that idea.

Second, after absolutely being sure that you are using the input dongle open up the TV in the Catalyst Control Center. While watching TV, or a blank screen if you don't get a TV signal, right click on the TV window and from the drop down menu choose input connector. This is where you will tell the control center whether the video is coming over S-Video, Composite, etc.

At least that's how I do it with my AIW, I'm hoping the same is true for your 9800.

Hummm, well, he is able to use XP MCE to watch and record TV, no problems. Not sure what you mean by "it doesn't work". However, I don't see ANYTHING in the Catalyst Control Center for watching TV. I went thru all the options in the Catalyst CC and there's really not squat in there. I feel like we're missing an app or something here and I dunno what that is because there is NOTHING to permit watching TV via any ATI software.....not in the Control Center or anywhere. That's why he's using XP MCE to watch/record TV with it.

I told him to go thru the apps that came on CDROM with the 9800 and see if we're missing something. We only installed all the files that you can download from ATI's website. I figured that would be better than using the old drivers/apps on the CDROM.

HELP! lol

are you sure all the Capture related drivers are installed? I have this same card, and under Device Manager->Sound, video, game controllers you should see six ATI WDM devices

Well, MCE has no auxilliary capture options. You'll have to install ATI's MMC and supportng software, or another capture program to capture from the camera.

EDit: Try Windows Movie Maker, its already there
