pretty much...its got everything from the tv timeshifting and video editing to top-of-the-notch gameing...competitive with the ti-500

i'm thinking about waiting for this thing's price to drop...instead of getting a xtasy everything or all-in-wonder radeon...what do you think?

What do I think? I think it won't work. Why? Because I happen to own a 8500 I bought with the Dell deal, and I have to say it isn't even worth the $200.

Save yourself some money and the headaches. Seriously. I mean it. Take a look at the Rage3d 8500 Tech Support forum and you'll see what I mean.

Sigh, if only nVidia made GF3 boards with dual-VGA. Come on nVidia! Please! At least they know how to do drivers and stability right.

Well what do you recommend for a high end card that is used mostly for graphics and movie editing, not so much for gaming?

Experiences vary. I got the 8500 from the same Dell deal and it is 100% stable with excellent performance and IQ. I highly recommend it. As far as the Dell forums, the number of problems posted there, at least since the latest drivers were released, is typical of any new card. I wouldn't pay $399 for the AIW version though. Rumor is the street price will be much lower on release, so I wouldn't pre-order. Could be a little south of $300. Keep checking pricewatch.

hurry up and wait is what this is without the "hurry up part"...

i waited all summer before finishing my computer so i could get my hands on a palomino core athlon (the term "athlon xp" wasn't out yet) and now i am waiting for the video card...arg!

I'm looking forward to the All In Wonder 8500 myself, but until I feel comfortable knowing the drivers are solid and stable, I won't even consider it. It will probably take a few months after the card hits store shelves before this happens.

No biggie, as for the time being, the All in Wonder Radeon is working great for me under Win2k.

My line of thinking is, generally:

If you're mainly a gamer, go with an nvidia card.
If you're more into video (tv tuner/capture, dvd, etc.) yet still play games on a fairly regular basis, go with an ATI card.
At this point in the game, I don't really see another chip company in the running. Sure, Matrox make good cards, but since the G400 MAX... Matrox are good business cards, not for gaming, not for dvd and tv capture.

To give you an idea of gaming performance, I was able to run Return To Castle Wolfenstein at 800x600 on a P2-450 with my All In Wonder Radeon running Win2k. One thing I cannot do with my setup is watch a dvd while surfing (both on the same monitor) without the movie stuttering. This happens when I scroll with the mouse wheel - the system just can't keep up.

I'm planning on upgrading to the All In Wonder 8500, but no way will I be first in line to get it. I'll give it 3-6 months to take care of any driver issues. ATI has sorta shot themselves in the foot with the regular 8500 drivers, but they continue to improve. I think it's smart they released the regular 8500 first before the All In Wonder version - it gives them time to get the drivers to a stable enough point.
