Here's the situation I'm in right now:
Multimedia center (and all associated programs.. particularily tv) does not work. When I start up my computer, I get an error message:
"The ATI Multimedia Center does not appear to be installed.
You may need to re-install the Multimedia Center"

When I try to uninstall multimedia center, regsrv32.exe uses up 100% of the CPU, and nothing else happens (left for ~20 mins or so).

How I got to this point:
Wanted to upgrade my video card drivers. AMD's official advice (possibly not the best..) is to use the ATI software removal tool to remove the current ones, and then reinstall.. for AIW, though, that removes multimedia center, etc.

Installed the new Catalyst drivers, fine.
Installed all of the multimedia components except for the dvd decoder (can't find the cd for it..), restarting where prompted.
After installing Multimedia Center and restarting, I get the above error message.
Tried repairing the install, no help.

Read on the net through a google search of the error message to try installing multimedia center for myself only (instead of for all users).. why? No idea..

After uninstalling Multimedia Center (it worked the first time..), tried this. Got error messages saying that it couldn't write to some registry keys (I have a suspicion SpybotS&D may have messed with the registry permissions at one point.. but I'm not sure..).

Tried reinstalling using "all users". Restarted computer, and get the above error message again. Now, try uninstalling Multimedia Center.. and it won't work (had to kill the processes after ~20 minutes). Which brings me to my current predicament..

Any help?

so i guess it's PCI-express.

i have an X850XT in an old system, that one is PCI-E.

i tried the X800XT AGP in another old system, to upgrade
from an MSI 5600. No good, real slow. Maybe some kind
of driver/config problem. i gave it a half hour and returned it.

depends on what your time limit is for messing around with
computer stuff. sorry i can't help more.

in order for people to help you, they need more tech details,
like OS, Service Pack, hardware.

If you think Spybot S&D did something, remove it, then go thru all the installs again.
