ATI all-in-wonder VS. Leadtek's TV2000XP TV/FM Multimedia card: which to get?

(Q1)What's the difference between the Leadtek FM/TV card and the ATI all-in-wonder series?

(Q2)My friend has a video camcorder with RCA jacks. He would like to download, edit and then transfer the results to VHS.

(Q3)What's the diff between the AIW 7500 and the AIW 8500?

All in Wonder cards don't have an FM tuner. The main difference between the AIW 8500 and AIW 7500 is gaming performance and amount of vram (64 MB for the 7500, 128 MB for the 8500) The 7500 should be plenty good if he doesn't game or plays older games.

My gripe with ATI is always the same thing:

Their drivers seem to cause many problems.

I have an ATI AIW 9700 Pro.... No driver problems (with either cat 2.5's or 3.0's) and best TV card I have ever used.... Compared to the Geforce3 / WinTV-PVR I had before the AIW is more stable, has more features, and the TV and my captures just looks better!


I don't know what the FM is like on the TV2000XP but, on the WINTV-PVR it was pretty useless. I even added an amplified FM antenna to it and still got mostly static...

I was reading through the ATI site and they *hint* that their tuners are capable of FM tuning, they just don't include the software in the bundle.

My old Diamond DTV2000 did FM tuning fine.

Depends on what you are attempting to do. I had an original Radeon AIW and now have a Leadtek TV2000XP. The software has probably advanced on the ATI side, but the Leadtek will let me save my video input in AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, VCD, DVD and other "quality" type formats. I'm finding it great for that since I'm ripping in all of my Laserdisc titles and transferring those to DVD.
I think that the ATI TV Tuner/Scheduler piece is definitely better than the Leadtek version. Again, there are pro's and con's of each. With an AIW, you're stuck at that video card. Whereas the Leadtek is independent of it. For the price, the Leadtek is hard to beat.

I have the Leadtek, and for the money, the tv quality is quite good; (full screen! ) the drivers are stable on my WinXP platform. I'm running an ATI 8500 with Cat 3.1s. I've haven't had a problem. Of course, if you have the money, shoot for an AIW9700 Pro. The tuner is supposed to be exceptional, and ATI's drivers are stable. Good luck!

I have AIW radeon 9700 pro and i also have the leadtek 2000---if youre gonna ask about the picture quality- i would say the leadtek is 1-2 notches better...

I've finally installed my Leadtek tuner and the picture off cable is ok as cable is only ever ok. I recorded a program but now I'd like to edit out the commercials.

What software (cheap) is available for simple editing?

Also, what software can I use to perhaps burn to a CD? I have plenty of cheap CD blanks and prefer to not buy a DVD burner for 30 minute cooking shows.

So perhaps what you're saying is, since it's to be played only on my computer, and as no cd players play videos like a dvd player plays dvd's, just store it as a data file.
