I need a card now as I'm stuck with a GeForce 2 MX since my upgrade, my old card didnt like my new mobo.
As heat and mainly noise are issues for me I have been thinking about a 9700 pro which is just within my budget at £220 GBP
Obviously I want the best thing I can for future games like Doom 3 and Quake 4.

The question I have is this ..
Is it worth me forcing myself to hang on for 3 or 4 months, are there any new cards out then that might force the price of 9800's down? I really cant hang on much longer than that as I have other expenses coming up, so its then or never. :/

Just wanna now if any has an idea of whats around the corner ?

You could, and there might be a price drop and/or better and faster cards in your price range, but the 9700pro is a dam fine card, and will last for quite along time before it begins to chug along with new games.

Don`t overlook the Sapphire 9700NP at £169 inc VAT from Komplett.co.uk ,yes I`ve just ordered one .

Im kinda itching to get a card so I have been thinking along the same lines, the 9700pro is no slouch, so I wont be gettin a dud.

I guess you can always wait for the next best thing, or in my case, for the next best thing to knock down the price of the current best thing

The chip commonly called the 'R420' should be arriving sometime in Q3-Q4 timeframe which will lower the price of the R9800 series, but how much and exactly when they will hit is up in the air. When nV really ramps production of the NV35 series it should also start the price moving south slowly for all of the high end parts, but not in to your price range any time soon more likely then not. In your price range the R9700 is likely the fastest board you will find for quite some time(by PC hardware standards anyway ).
