ATI and XP Problem

I have a system that is a little aged, but not too much so.

Abit KT7-RAID with a 1400 in it. Has an original ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon in it.

The system originally had Windows 2000 on it and it now has Windows XP.

This problem has been consistant through every driver and OS upgrade/patch since I orignally built this system.

Here is what happens. This particular computer gets powered down every night. When it is turned on, it starts to boot into windows, but freezes either with a black screen or sometimes with a garbled screen. If you hard-reset, the system then comes up just fine.

I have now the latest ATI drivers, latest Abit BIOS, and still the problem persists.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, it would be greatly appreciated!

I would have to lean toward a Bad RAM Module.

If it has done the same thing with 2 OS's and multiple
drivers, it has to point toward a hardware problem.

Various hardware problems have occured to me, but if it were a bad RAM module, it would be giving me other problems as well. My thought is that there might be a BIOS setting or driver setting that I am missing.

After the first hard reset, the system runs like a champ.

I very seriously doubt it's a ram module problem if this is the only problem you get. If it's an agp card, I would try adjusting the agp driving control in the bios from auto to EA or even FF and see what it does. That is if the abit has this option in it's bios. If that doesn't help, maybe a later VIA Agp driver would help. Go here and download the latest agp driver to see if that helps as well.

Tried both driving strengths and got the same results.

I installed the lastest 4in1s from Via already, so do I need to install the AGP driver seperately?

Thanks!

Normally if you install the latest 4-in-1's, it installs the agp driver as well. You could always try to install the agp driver separately.
