Looks like neither ATI, nor Nvidia could not get enough quality chips from TSMC, or IBM to get the 6800 ultra extreme or the XT PEs to market in mass quantitys........
Besides getting memory thats fast enough for either chip :brokenheart:
What a load
That's what ATI wants you to think
Strangely, the 6800Ultra seems to be coming out in quantity . . .
so it's not RAM
. . . . it's . . .
. . . it's . . . (catch a breath) . . .
it's . . .
Crappy YIELD on the XT . . .
(looks like ATI - in their "rush" to beat nVidia - didn't get all the "bugs" out of their manufacturing process.)
What else could it be?
(no, really)
Go to your local store which sells graphics cards and if you find a 6800 ultra extreme and a 800xt pe ON THE SHELF then I will agree with you. Both companys are having a hard time getting quality chips from TSMC and IBM. thus the reason the 6800gt and the x800 pro are available in decent quantitys. The higher clocked versions are very limited in quantity.
it seems i was actually agreeing with you - EXCEPT on the scarcity of suitable RAM.
(it ain't as scarce as GPU yields are bad - ati would like to blame it all on video memory)
i should have made it clearer
and the 6800u is definitely more available than the XT
(i can find a 6800u near MSRP - NOT the XT)
