ATi Catalyst 3.4 drivers

****IVE FOUND A PROBLEM WITH CAT 3.4****
Seems like i was a little too hopeful before.
Ive just tryed GTA Vice City, and as soon as the windows taskbar dissappears after clicking on the icon, and all the way to the menu, and in game, the screen is completly garbled.

Just so you lot know.
Ive gone back to good old reliable, practically bug free, and reasonably fast Catalyst 3.1

Same problem here, but I found a fix. Delete the preferences file in the My Documents GTA folder (Some place saved games are), and then Turn on Frame Rate Limiter in the VC options. It will lock your fps @ 30 (ugh) but the problem won't happen.

don't forget to delete your ati folder left over when you uninstall the ati drivers and control pannel (it's in the cdrive).

also you need to delete your ati.dll files in the system32 folder and clean your registry of all ati leftovers.

Well these 3.4s work great with my 9000PRO and 8500LE. Tried BF1942 and UT and both games look and play better with these than any previous Cats in my rigs.

This driver is a keeper.

I dont have to use that 9700 to 9800 driver software hack now.

My performance took no hit in 3dmark01 , and graphics are still awsome.

I'm so depressed.....I have an ATI 9500 pro overclocked...was working fine with the cat 3.2....then i uninstalled....and reinstalled the cat 3.4...now when i get into windows i have black dots all over.... =( what to do...

Playst, at least you got 'em installed! I just spent 3 hours trying to install to no avail! (YES, I uninstalled/Driver Cleanered/RegCleaned/manually checked and uninstalled all old files multiple times!)
I even throttled my system down to stock to eliminate THAT variable!

Thank god for Ghost! I'll give 'em another shot in a couple of days when the "dust" settles...

they're installed.. they work good. UT2K3 seems to run even smoother now... it's the only thing I currently have on my PC

so far so good.. i just installed over the 3.1's which i just put on.. i had to go back and remove them from the add/remove programs.. it asked me which i wanted to remove.. i left the 6343's in there... (new ones) and all is running awesome...

oh another question for the ATI guys.. how come I have no ATI tabs in my display properties? the only ones are the ones for rage3dtweak..

i DO have rage3dtweak set to not disable them, but they are still not there.... anyone know why i don't have any? I kinda liked them being there..

craig that's bizarre you should have them there, try reinstalling the control panel.

My 3dmark2003 went up 400 points, i listed the games earlier that perform better too.

can you download just the control panel seperately? i must not have that.. (new to ATI cards)

my last million cards have been NVidia, I havent had an ATI since my Rage Fury back in like 98-99 so I really have no idea what i am doing here.

When you download them from the ati website (like you should do)

there are two downloads you need:

one is the driver
one is the control panel


I posted a little guide about doing it in this thread i believe, if not it's in the other 3.4 cat thread.

you install the driver first, reboot, then install the control panel, and reboot.

Got it.. all the tabs are there now.
so far I am happy with this video card and the drivers... excellent..
I just need to get a more powerful CPU..(just got this one today) my P4 whooped my Barton's ass in alot of things. heh...

Craig,thats not really a good idea installing new drivers while you have the old one still installed and then remove the old ones.Delete them,first the ATI drivers and then the control panel drivers.You should also download drivercleaner.Just follow the readme or print it out on what to do.You can get it here.Does both ATI and Nvidia cards. Driver Cleaner

thanks for the heads up. i thought it a joke at first since they sort of jumped Cat 3.3, but i'm not complaining. hope it bumps up my perf up from hair under 4500 in 3dmark03.. keeping my fingers crossed.

These drivers do a LOT for 3DMark03. Took my score form 4679 up to 5020. (R9700 Pro, stock)

I feel bad for the folks having GTA trouble, I imagine that'll get figured out in time as not everyone is seeing it. I'm happy to report NO problems with any of the games on my "play list", just all around goodness from these drivers.

I see everyone has at least some performance boost in 3dMark03.

for me.: I have a Radeon 9100 128MB

3dmark01 and 3dmark03 all dropped. but hopefully within 10~20.

but is it a mistake?

Ive found a fix for the Vice City error guys, with some help from other people.

Just go to
"my documents", then "gta vice city user files"

and delete
"gta_vc.set"

Then enable frame rate limiter in the menus.

Problem is now fixed.
And with that fixed, Cat3.4 is now staying on my rig.
