ATi Catalyst 3.4 drivers

i tried installing the 3.4's for my radeon 9800 pro because while using the 3.2's Splinter cell would crash with cirtical error... (i d/led the latest patch for game and doesn't fix problem) After installing the 3.4's I got a BSOD after bootup and went to remove the ATI control panel and received this message: error extractiong support files the data is invalid... Conclusion I can't uninstall the contral panel from the add/remove programs

None too happy with them. Well more like g/f is none too happy with them. Missing textures and random lines flashing all over in dark age of camelot.

Image quality seems much better with my 9000Pro, the smoothvision feature works better. No more jagged diagonal lines. However it appears that it is slower even though my 3dMark01 score was slightly higher. Maybe I'm not used to it, but it looks great.

Run the install program for the control panel again. Then you should be able to uninstall with add remove.

They didn't have the 3.4's that are released now, so testing with these drivers would be helpful. But it really dont matter since doom3 is still beta.

Is there a guide somewhere for the settings in the ATI tabs? I read a guide before about choosing settings for optimal gaming, but since I formatted my HD I dont remember the site address. I'd also like to find a guide somewhere for Rage3d (yes, I searched but didnt find anything useful like I read before).

I'm about to install 3.4 but I want to try benchmarking for the 1st time with my current default settings and with optimal settings + Rage3d tweak. If it matters, I have the AIW 8500 128Mb card. Thanks!

BachelorNumber1. Before you install Rage3D Tweak, make a restore point, on my rig it messed up my 3dmark scores. Just a warning.

Viper96720, the info for the patch says that its just for the graphical errors, so if dont get them, then i dont need to install it right?

Also, is there a way to install the new DVD decoder if you dont have the newest CD for verification? Could I download it somewhere? I have the 8500 and the CD isnt valid for an update, which is just crap. Without the decoder, I cant view MPEG-2 videos.

No, ATI's software requires the CD, unfortunately; this is due to some arcane licensing issues. You could *ahem*get *ahem* some other DVD playing software, however.

Well, the problem is that when I use my AIW's TV tuner to record something, I cant view it. WMP says it cant find the codec and the ATI file player says the file has an error. I guess I could download another player, but why should I? I'd prefer to keep everything together and not have to get a new player for each file I want to use.

Does anyone know if installing the DVD 7.6 file with the new MMC 8.5 will cause problems?

everything aok with these drivers for me. a minor, very minor increase overall. 3dmark03 gained about 100 points. can't notice too much improvement in games, all game benches similar to 3.2s.

the image quality seems better, but might be my imagination.

I went from ~6150 to ~6350 with the new drivers. Could probably hit 6400 or more if I bumped the 9800's core clock above 440.

Bach#1 can't you change the recorded format? Change it to something wmp recognizes instead of ati's codec.

These drivers are extremely solid. Performance is up a little, they've fixed the NOLF mouse issue I was having and I really like the new colour control section.

Viper, the setting is for normal MPEG2 encoding and NOT with ATI's .vcr format, so you'd think everything is ok. I have 8.1 right now so I tried installing DVD 7.6 anyway and it just messed the entire MMC up. The TV doesnt even work now, even though I removed DVD 7.6 and its decoder. That doesnt matter now since I'm going to 3.4 anyway, but I guess my main beef is that without the DVD decoders from ATI, I cant record in MPEG2 ...MPEG1 is ok, but there goes some of the flexibility.

The warnings for MMC 8.1 and 8.5 clearly say that without their DVD decoder, MPEG2 video wont be viewable. None of this makes sense to me though; ATI improves their MMC software but dont allow everyone to take advantage of it...nice. So I guess that DVD decoder install file doesnt put a setup.exe file on the computer? If it did, I would really appreciate an upload!

The decoder is for dvd playback. If you have another software dvd player you can use that to play the mpeg-2s

I'm still having Splinter Cell problems and currently using Cat 3.4, it charshed to the desktop with a critical error message. Hope someone could shed some light on the topic. Thanks

What's the error message? There's a progam you can get from microsoft to read the crash dump files.

I've also had the same problem with Splinter Cell as well using Cat 3.4 drivers. Splinter Cell would unexpectedly crash. Don't play the game much so nothing crucial but next time I'll try to make it a point to write down the error coding....
