At this rate a 9800GT will be faster than a 4870 with the performance gains nvidia gets with its driver updates. I'm seriously thinking about selling my Ati card and going back to nvidia, something like a nice 9800GT or GTX just based on drivers alone....

The performance difference between the 9.1s and the 9.2s in that review are all just about within margin of error of one another. The author complains of not seeing the performance improvement that ATI promised, except that the author was not doing the majority of testing in scenarios where ATI stated that performance could improve. ATI stated performance improvements up to 20% in CPU limited situations. Running high resolutions with AA and AF is not the smartest way to make the gpu no longer be a bottleneck.

These drivers fixed a lot of problems, are about the same speed as the last one(nobody could ever notice the performance difference without a frame counter if the numbers in the review are correct), and seem to be working perfectly fine for the vast majority of people(Myself included). This kind of driver update makes you want to switch to a card that is significantly slower?

No no no. What I'm saying is, at this rate the way nvidia's drivers offer 20% improvement in most games in each release, that pretty soon the 9800GT will catch up to the performance of the 4870 just based on driver improvements alone. Personally I have no problems with them either. Installed them and all my games run fine. I'm just tired of seeing and hearing from nvidia users how their drivers (single gpu) are getting like 20% improvements in alot of games new and old, and with Ati its like 5% I wish Ati had some big bang drivers like nvidia. Too Ati drivers have been nothing but duds.

Umm, what you stated is complete hearsay. Please show me a 9800GT receiving 20% in improvements in non stated Nvidia recommenced tested games? Heck I will even take what Nvidia told them to test.

Same problem. It used center timing on some of the resolutions with Win 7 64-bit. There is a way to fix it though.

What you need to do is run regedit.

Goto HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{C5DD2FDA-E45D-4C8A-A17A-ABB8E7FA7E97}\0000

{C5DD2FDA-E45D-4C8A-A17A-ABB8E7FA7E97} - might be different, but you'll know you got the right one once you enter the 0000 folder and see ATI referenced.

Now once your in the right folder goto the following DWORDs and remove the resolutions your having problems with scaling.

DALNonStandardModesBCD1
DALNonStandardModesBCD2
DALNonStandardModesBCD3
DALNonStandardModesBCD4

example - 16 80 10 50 00 00 00 60

Once you've removed those entries restart and install PowerStrip. Use PowerStrip to make custom resolutions for the resolutions you've removed. Restart again and you should be good.

Hrm... things have been running slower than expected. I'll give this a try and let everyone know how much this helps out.

Thanks I'll give it a shot.

EDIT: I tried it but doesn't seem to work. It goes to 1024x768 whenever I try to put it to 1680x1050 from within powerstrip.

Installation was smooth and no issues to report with 9.2s and my Vista x64 gaming.

So far so good. FEAR2 seems a bit smoother, but that's subjective. I'll stay up late play all my games and drinking beer to test the new drivers properly

curious if there is still the line around water and stuff in cod waw

Still having the line about the water, but unless it's my imagination, the line is there less regularly. When I was on 8.12 the line seemed to always be there, but not it seems like 50% of the time when I approach a puddle, the line will be there.

Meh, this still doesn't fix the flicker issue when it comes to source games and waking your computer up from sleep. I play a lot of TF2 and it basically forced me to sell my 4870x2.

There's a problem with X1k based boards when using Catalyst A.I. in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. I don't know for how long it's been an issue, but I've noticed it so far with drivers 9.1 and 9.2.

Turning Catalyst A.I. off corrects the problem.

That desktop is awesome. How'd you get the Apple toolbar at the bottom?

Do you guys uninstall the previous Catalyst drivers before installing the latest release? Or do you just install right over the old version?

I just download the installer and run it. Click next a few times, restart pc. Don't do anything else. This has worked for me since the time of the Radeon 9700.

Gave these a try last night... hardware acceleration for VC-1 and H.264 still seems broken in media player classic HC for me. It last worked in 8.12. This time instead of rolling back I just disabled it in Mplayer. Seems like it's not worth the effort as my cpu is capable enough anyway.
This is on an HD 4670, win xp 32 with dual monitors over dvi (actually 2nd is a tv on a dvi-hdmi cable if that makes any difference).

Also, there seems to be some confusion in windows over what color profile is applied to each monitor - it doesn't seem to allow a different one on each. I still need to figure that one out, but my x1950pro was working there...

I install it over the old version because I am too lazy to do otherwise, but you should probably uninstall and reinstall.

Anyway, has anyone else noticed an actual improvement in crysis/warhead? Definitely seems faster as the driver file suggests.

I just lost abt 10% frames in Clear Sky. I'll keep it for a few more days to see other games as well, but it doesn't look like we have a winner. Previous drivers worked fine here.

Edit: Running XP

These also don't seem to fix the audio over HDMI issue for HTPCs that ATI broke after Catalyst 8.1, at least for me. Even upgrading the Realtek drivers for the audio on my EAH3450 card did not bring it back, and I had to roll everything back to 8.1/2.03. Rumor was this release fixed some of the EDID issues everyone's been having with ATI, but I wasn't able to verify this on my LN650, since it's more important to me to have sound than proper EDID.

I tried again them again and same thing

I even tried unclocking my bios..

Is there so trick to updating ATI drivers???
All I ever done with nVidia was to run driver.exe

I dont need to uninstall old drivers do it??

first of all make sure it is the right driver version

the right way is to use the Catalyst install manager to "uninstall all ATi HW"
- then install and you will have to reboot

You DID uninstall every trace of Nvidia drivers with a driver cleaner, right?
- before you installed your new AMD videocard??
