ATI Fan dying...

Squealing and buzzing like some sort of barbershop razor! :| Less than a month old and time to RMA. I could just return it to the store I bought it from but I'd like to see if ATI will fix things up even better.

Anyone familiar with ATI's RMA process? Should I even try? It should help that I'm Canadian....

From what I have seen on the rage3d boards, ATI has a pretty good RMA policy. When people bought
the 9700 Pro, and then later upgraded to a 8x AGP board, and the card would not post, or work
properly, they were RMA'ing them left and right. They gave people 2 options, send it in, and wait, or
put down a deposit, and they would send a board, and you send your's in after the new one arrived.

I am not sure how they handle a failed fan though. I have not closely examined how the fan is
attached, but I would probably just replace the fan with a quality one, and minimize the downtime
or inconvienience of RMA'ing the card.

Are you in a real dusty area? I know that dust buildup wreaks havoc on fans in a system. I had
constant problems till I went with an Antec case with a filter for the intake.

I usually remove those fans, peel back the sticker over the bearing and put a drop of 3-in-1 oil or something like that..

But the advanced rma replacement program might be a good idea..

They accidently put a Radeon 9500/9700 Manual in the box... I asked if I could "get one of those..."

My 8500LE fan is making all kind of noise. Sounds like my computer has a lung cancer.
