That's very kind of you, but I'm from the old world....you would have to ship it all the way over the Atlantic ocean

See the main update, don't have it working quite yet

I've submitted what I've found to ATI, so hopefully they'll be able to fix it soon.
It's like praying to Santa for a Victoria Secrets model though, so the more people to submit the problem, the bigger our chances of getting a fix gets.

tihifnis, I tried what you suggested but no luck. In the 6th step, I switch to 1680x1050 120Hz in Windows. When I hit apply, it goes to 1680x1050 but only 60Hz mode.

From this point on, "Enable GPU scaling" is checked but grayed out, it somehow automatically switches to "Scale image to full panel size", and no matter what I do, it will not go to 120Hz mode at all. I can select it in Windows or CCC and hit apply, but it goes right back to 60Hz.

The only way to get back to 120Hz is to put the resolution lower, disable image scaling, and then go back to 1680x1050

Any other suggestions? I appreciate the responses here.

Well, I found a guy with a Sapphire HD4670 and he has no problems.

"I'm on win7 RTM x64, Catalyst 9.3. I tried Catalyst 9.9, but the only difference I'm noticing there is that there were options like scaling added to the menus which don't work. Therefore I downgraded to 9.3.
On native resolution, I get 60, 100, 110 and 120hz."

He is using these settings

I've already tried that and it didn't help me.

so basically ATI's support for 120hz is busted, good to know I just returned my Viewsonic vx2265wm and ordered a Samsung 2233rz and was just about to pull the trigger on a HD 5850 but now I think I'll stick with my 8800GT and wait for the GTX 285 prices to fall below the HD 5850.

well ever since I sold my 3870x2 on ebay I haven't touched ATI. But when I seen the 5870 I thought wow! was thinking of getting one

Hope its gets sorted and soon. But the 5870 should help reduce the GTX prices as you say.

That sounds great. I hope they'll be able to fix it with the 9.10 version. I'm just a bit worried about his reply regarding the 4000 cards :l

UPDATE: ATI forums admin spyre says this is an issue with the clockspeed when the card is running in 2D mode. I tried gaming at 120Hz and it seems to work alright so far. I'm only getting corruption when I'm not gaming, or during parts when presumably the GPU clockspeed is low (during menus/cutscenes, etc.)

I haven't tried messing with the clockspeeds so far. . . I'll try playing around some more when I get home from work I have to say, though, that Team Fortress 2 with 4xAA, 16xAF, all settings on max, at constant 120Hz with v-sync enabled. . . is gaming heaven

I'm still a bit confused why my 4870 gave me corruption all the time though, even when playing 3D games. Hopefully 4000-series owners aren't SOL.

dude disable that vsync, it's not needed, tearing is almost impossible to see at 120hz. It's one of the main reasons to use high refresh rates like 120hz, double buffering for vsync will kill your framerate if it drops below the refresh rate and triple buffering will add really bad input lag. Please go back to TF2 and try it with vsync OFF.

Want going to bump this thread, but since it landed on the front page again:

My 2233rz seems to have a very very mild overheating problem. Once it gets too hot it flickers for like 1/30th of a second every couple of seconds. I fixed it by lowering the brightness/contrast a little bit (i was at 100/100, now at 75/80)

I'm jealous. What processor are you using?

I only get those screen flickers within my CCC window. The last OS install I didn't have that. Recent install < a month ago. So maybe it's something to do with .net

this is killing me. have you done what the AMD rep on the forums said and increase the 2d clock?

I just recently purchased this monitor and a ATi Diamond 5850 and am having the exact same issue when I use this monitor and nothing else. However, if I have another monitor enabled and attached, it works perfectly at 120hz with no flicker. IF I use just this monitor and disable the other inputs, the flicker returns.

The downside to this is the extended monitor becomes incredibly laggy! Either that or I never noticed lag on it before. My secondary and third monitor are two Dell 27" LCDs with multiple inputs, not sure of the model.

I'm also currently using the 9.10 CCC drivers in Vista 64 FWIW...

Yes, that was the very first thing I tried. I tried both with rivatuner and CCC.

I found some old threads on ATI forum which describe the exact same problem. The thread goes back to 2008 and is regarding the HD4870 card and blinking problems. If you read it through, you can see it's the same problem we have.
Their solution was to reduce the 2D clock speed, until I guess ATI fixed it.

http://forums.amd.com/game/mes...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

The thread points to another thread as well.

Hey guys !

I just registered on the forums for you 2233rz owners. I have no problems with my 2233rz with ATI. Everything runs good at Native Resolution. 1680x1050 @ 120Hz. No distortion and jittering. Hmm, have anyone tried the Cataclyst 9.12 beta driver to see if that fix the problem? The official 9.12 driver is going to be released 16th december, where release notes also will appear... Im holding my breath for this... I really hope it will fix the 120hz-problem .
Link to download Catalyst 9.12 beta here: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=108345

note: its only for 5xxx series.

I have just tried the official drivers, but it still doesn't work. Nothing has been fixed, and it's not even recognized as a known problem in the driver change logs. It's so ridiculous.
Nvidia users have had the frequencies 60, 75, 85, 100, 110 and 120hz in ALL resolutions since the screen was released in January. We still only have 120hz in native but it doesn't work on the desktop. It doesn't work 100% in 3D mode as well, since some games like QuakeLive also get distortion once in a while.
