Ati or Nvidia

Hello all, I already mentioned that I'm builing a new Computer, now I need some help in choosing the rigth Graphic card.

Right now I got that:

Ati 1900XTX
Geforce 7900GTX

I saw in a lot of Benchmarks, that the Geforce 7900GTX won in over 80% of the test. I am a Hardcore egoshooter player so I need the to run the game with the best graphic and as fast as it goes.

I just want the best graphic card that is on the market right now.
Please don't say ati or nvidia is better, because I like it, pls say which one is really better.

The Geforce 7900GTX consumes less power and generates less heat.
The Radeon X1900XTX is better at higher resolutions and can do HDR+AA
together and it will show its real potential in upcoming shader heavy games

If you also want to watch DVD, the best is nVidia. MaxPC had a shootout a few months ago...the budget performance card went to ATI, but mid and high ranges went to nVidia cards. All three catagories on MPEG-2 playback went very decisively to nVidia.

I've never liked ATI drivers, it seems they keep screwing them up...

Flip a coin, they'll both satisfy you...the ATI's heatsink fan can get quite loud though...ugh, but if you got good airflow or watercooling, it wont matter much.

So far they have about the same speed potential (the big guys havn't torchered the NV just yet though) when overclocked. (the NV just might squeek by)
they are both super mega fast
driver support, say you wanted to go linux down the road NV for that.
NV has a better designed stock cooler (its quiet and effective) so if your staying stock this one is important.
Video quality, that would be ATI's department.

it depends on what you want really, I doubt either would disapoint.

Hi BruceCR and Welcome to the Forums!

If want the absolute fastest, look into SLI (2 fast nV cards working in tandem). ATI has CrossFire (their version of SLI, but it just doesn't seem as "mature" as nV's SLI).

So, what I heard is that the Ati's Image Quality is way better. I mean I just want the game to look as good as possible, and don't have any lags in high resolution.

1900xtx>7900gtx in anything, you're better off comparing 7900gtx to 1900xt.

The ATI X1x00XTx 512MB cards push their heat out of the case.

The high end GeForce cards either dump their heat into the case or only partially out.

That was a major reason for me to stay with ATI this time around.

omg, teh fanboishnocity.
they are both so goddamn close it should come down to cost. but then if money is no object... I'd say 1900xtx. Only because it does have slightly(ever so slight) better IQ, and while it performs barely below the 7900GTX in most benches, it begins to pull ahead at higher resolutions. Of course we are talking really high resolutions that you may not even play at.

BTW i will be getting my 7800gt in 3 days... right now i have a 9800pro.

They are both top notch cards, the X1900XTX makes a prescot look like a mobile CPU, but it is the better option if you're going for really high end single card performance (and you don't care about noise/heat/powerdraw). If you are definitly going SLI (if you're definitly going SLI) then the 7900GTX gets my vote, or if you want a low noise system.

All my opinion of course.

Like stated before, ATI has always had graphical glitches for me. Both with my ATI Mobility 9000 and with my old 9800xt. Textures are distorted and polygons are just plain weird at times. This has always been fixed by getting the latest omega drivers, but in my opinion i shouldnt have to get 3rd party drivers to make my stuff work. Their drivers, for me at least have always sucked hard. Nvidia on the other hand have never given me graphical issues. Everything has always played as it should

never had a problem with ati for drivers Except the Shadows in BF2 but thats it.

I had issues with quake 2 running at like 50x the normal speed with ATI drivers to normal with omega. Medal of Honor had textures stretched all over the place with the ATI drivers and then again fixed with omega. Halo wouldnt display some textures with ATI, same with Far Cry.

Maybe its just my bad luck, but from those experiences i will never buy another ATI product

Just recently yanked out a 9800 pro and replaced it with a 6600 GT.

While the Nvidia card doesn't drive colors as card, it's actuall less artificial than the ATI card, and given I do critical digital imaging on the side I'll take the superior NVidia control panel. At least the Nvidia card gives you the option of turning all tha crap on -vs- having it on by default like ATI does just to win magazine reviews.

I will * never* buy another ATI card again. When I migrated to a 9800 pro (given to me by another NVidia convert) from a 9800 SE, I spent over 6 hours ripping out and replacing ATI drivers with their catalyst driver remover tool, which consequently gets as many downloads as their drivers.

I have both in systems I run here at home and at my business. For flat out game speed.........nVidia. For higher detail and watching DVD's as well as overal 3D/2D quality, ATI wins.

What's with the driver questions too? I keep up with each release from both and nVidia is no less a PITA than ATI and vice versa. I don't use CCC from ATI but use ATI Tray Tools. Also, I find ATI cards much easier/better to O/C and seem to have more head room to O/C...... JMO!
