Well ATI sure kept us waiting, but it will finally be introduced this month, the R520 architecture, the successor to the X800 family of graphics cards and a contender for the 3D graphics throne. But why wait for that introduction when you can have a sneak peak today? Normally we would?ve adhered to ATI?s NDA and published results the moment it expired. However this time around ATI decided to just not bother with us and go with pro-ATI media, or rather media that would paint a more favorable picture of its latest graphics architecture. They made it very clear that we did not make the cut, as we have written some articles about CrossFire, R520 and ATI?s financial situation that were not apparently not appreciated. Hence we?ve not been briefed by ATI, nor did we sign an NDA, or have been invited to the launch event, so basically they decided to cut us off.

Unfortunately for ATI we have other sources to get detailed information from, for example the board partners that will be manufacturing and selling the majority of these new graphics cards. Obviously because we?re not bound by any NDA or other agreement with ATI we?ve worked hard to get you some benchmark results prior to the launch which is scheduled for the end of this month. To ATI we?d like to comment that it is a two-way street really, we?d like to be briefed about your products and have early access to them, if that requirement is met we will have no issues with signing and adhering to NDAs. By cutting us off however we?ve just been given a new incentive to work harder to break the news when we get a chance, in our usual no holds barred fashion.

Ouch

Wow. I waited six months for less improvement than I expected on the ATi front. Oh well, I'll wait for the next gen from nVidia.

Disheartening.

I'm glad that I decided not to wait for "the next big thing" and purchased a 7800GTX. Awesome card.

i'd still say wait till AT makes the benchies, not some reviewer who were cut off.
For all we know, disgruntle bias report. Than again even they said, they didnt physically do the benchies but sent them a script..
so we will never know how accurate those results are.

until the reviews comes out from those folks with the NDA, hold on to ur money.

Wow, I am an ATI fanboy too....but damn, can you say PWND ATI????

I have a x800xl right now, I was gonna move up to the next gen ATI cards a little bit after they came out. I now will not be upgrading to an ATI card, I think I will hold out for a while, or make the move to NVidia.

I am so disapointed in ATI, after all of the crap I have been talking about ATI to the NVidia Fans out there I think I just got PWND by these benchmarks.

Well you cant say this wasnt expected. Both companies seem to manage to have their cards perform within 5-10% of the other guys cards.

Obviously this isnt official and there will be more reviews. So maybe those reviews will paint a different picture? Maybe it wont but at least ATI is competitive. Something they werent until the R300.

I like ATI as well but releasing a card thats only on par with the current cards already out is sad. I believe the drivers will boost the performance to make it on the same level as Nvidia's 7800gtx but come on,... your releasing a card a couple months after Nvidia so should it be better out of the box?!?

The 7800GTX has not been around for 6 months. Why do people keep saying it has, when it was released to the market on June 22 (or atleast reviewed by AT). I would hope after 3 months of driver updates, the X1800XT could do a better.

$150 more for the XT which is defeated by the GTX? No thanks.

Would I be wrong to say that the 7800GTX released at the same price (msrp)? hhhhm lets thing about that, it took basically 2 months to drop the average price around $500, ATI should lower the price of the cards about the same in 1 month if they want to make any money this round.

And how many 512mb 7800GTX are in production and buyable right now? Thats right, none.

They pitted the ATI up against lot of SLI cards. I dont think this is a fair comparision.

Well, at least that will give you some hope and something to hold on to. If ATI truly snubbed these guys because of articles in the past that has shown ATI in a poor light, ATI then deserves what they get. Marketing BS should not be the norm. Sad that it is.

Am I the only one who thinks this story has a few holes in it?
Quote: The numbers you see reflected in the next few pages are therefore provided AS IS, as we have no way to verify them as we don?t physically have a board, they are accurate as far as we can see and in line what we?ve been expecting. So without further ado, let?s take a look at what the R520 architecture is capable of.
So they got an ATI partner to break their NDA and run benchmarks for them? I doubt it. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Ignore the SLI numbers and look at the single card benches then, duh.
Or give us working Crossfire to make a comparison on the ATi front with SLI.

If they sent a script to AIB partners of ATi and had them run benchmarks, I think that whether or not the site is annoyed with ATi would make NO difference at all.
If anything, it makes the AIB partners more likely to try and show ATi in a good light, and inflate numbers, since they want to sell these cards, they have a financial interest in making ATi look good. AIB partner numbers are likely to be biased FOR ATi, so if anything "real" numbers are likely to be worse, unless there are driver improvements to be made.

You guys keep waiting! I've been waiting for 4 months or so to build myself a new system and I'm done waiting. Those benchmarks look too authentic to me yet the ATI fan boys are still hoping for a miracle. Sorry ATI my money goes to Nvidia (again). God damn I was so stupid to wait 3 months for ATI and their crap, I could have been gaming happily this whole time. Oh well lesson learned.

well HA has been a good source for many years, and if ATI makes bench marks than they usually are not true... It is always good to look at what other companies get on Benchmarks, as most of them are not bias to one or the other...
