I bought one a while back for $30 online. It makes a great dual monitor setup. The main monitor for the game and the second for the walkthrough. Or even better is using the tv out to watch some divx and be able to look at imdb at the same time.

3. can the card do BOTH tv-out and monitor at the SAME time at different resolution ?

i.e. 800*600 tv and 1024*768 mon

No, it can't use different resolutions, or at least if it can, i haven't found a way and i've played with it a lot. I'd assume this is because the tv-out doesn't do any graphics processing it just convverts it to a NTSC signal.

I'd like to try this card for a secondary display, but I thought using 2 video cards (both 2d and 3d capable) didn't work (i.e., both cards usually try to be THE primary video card).

The old Voodoo 2's worked well because they only rendered the 3d using the pass-through cable.

For anyone trying the second monitor (or more) the experience i've had with this is that you need to have your BIOS post to your PCI card as the primary display so that the AGP doesn't get all persnippity; but you can set windows to use whichever you like as the primary display so it doesn't really matter which one you post to.

Also, I've had fairly good luck with getting ATI cards to do more than 2 monitors; 3 so far and i have faith that adding PCI rage fury or radeon cards will be a breeze. Sometimes you have to uninstall and reinstall video drivers to get all the cards happy together, but don't give up, the first time i got three cards working it just took a lot of futzing around with it.

I run dual monitors at work and both home machines... I love it tons of desktop space for AIM, and Winamp etc. Anyway the price is right to get it for a secondary card but honestly a peice of junk S3 or 3D Rage will do you just fine. I have a friend running 2x old Tridents. Because only your primary video card will have 3d and overlay functions. WinXP/2k is a bit better at overlay but not by much as it switches control which takes time. Anyway you cannot use your secondary displays for 3d unless you got a dual card like a Matrox or ATI VE. So all your using it for is 2D stuff so get a junk card as a Radeon is going to dump more heat into your system. As far as playing videos you cannot do it on both simulatiously. However with Win 2k/XP it will switch from one monitor to another if you move the window (only in WMA that I'm aware of though).

ok, I just recently picked up a 7500 w/dual crt/dvi/s-vid out. I wanted to use it on my living room tv as the only display device w/wireless kb+mouse combo. I have all this gear hooked up win2k pro and the card works fine on crt but the tv out kinda sucks or I am not doing something right. I have the latest ati drivers properly installed but in order to see anything on the tv I have to go into adv properties then change format to pal - apply-then change back to ntsc-apply to get something out at 800x600 16 or 32 bpp. it works after that for any desktop app that can be maximized (until you reboot then you have to do it all over again) tried Dungeon seige I get a blank and have to repeat the entire process to see anything at all. I have tried making it the primary then the clone with the same results. After going throught the menu bs to get a pisture out of it, it wants to reboot to save changes right? wrong. comes up blank(well actually during boot I see stretched scrolling crap non-discernable) then when desktop comes up nothing on tv. maybe a refresh issue? I dunno but has anyone else had probs like this? I bought this card specifically for this function and it doesn't seem to work very well.

there are two things that nobody has mentioned yet... how does this card compare to the 7000 ($10 more)? afaict the 7000 is the same, but without the tv-out and possessing ddr instead of sdr. anand's reviews only mention the 7500 and the 8500... really all the benchmarks on the net for 7000 seem to be for mac systems
tia, get ready

unclebud, 7000, 7500 or 8500 are better because they use AGP port. This ATI card use the PCI port. This card is great for system without a AGP port or using for a second monitor or lcd. If you have a AGP port, i wouldn't recommend using this card

Thanks for the heads up!

P.S., if someone here wants this card and I am not happy with the TV out (I have *REALLY* high standards), it's yours for what I paid for it + shipping. PM me if interested. I'm waiting for a 400W PS before I can build that computer.

What did ya say to him? I just called my OD and they said the price is $75.

I went by Office Depot yesterday (2 of them). One was out, the other had one left in the display case listed for $99. I asked the clerk to get me a price match anyway, and it listed there at $49.99. I bought the card at the time, but will likely return it today or tomorrow, as I'm having a bit of buyer's remorse ( didn't need the card, haven't even installed it or anything ).

All in all, not a bad card for a PCI-based system. Box came with card, manual, S-Video and Composite Video Cables, and a little adapter ( didn't look at it yet ) which I presume converts S-Video to Composite.

Man, I just spent 50 for mine shipped last week at compuplus. Its a nice little companion for my Geforce3 ti200 using it as a second extended desktop video card. Good Deal!

ok, i think what happened is this card is on clearance, so the mgr MAYBE cleared his store's stock out by knocking them to $24.88
mr. Budarow will be back to confirm if this is so (telltale sign would be ringing up at the cash register @ $49.99, but needing the new price entered)
honestly, i THINK he said it would be going down (will reread the thread), so be on one's guard for a price drop
saturday it may be moot for some of us anyway
good luck out there...

btw, i'm sorry about the confusion earlier... i meant how many polys are pushed and not the merits of agp versus pci
agp is faster supposedly, but you can slap a pci in almost anything...

This card is no longer being produced, hense the clearance. I would post a scan of my receipt, but that would require a scanner :\

I scored two 64M Radeon 7000 PCI cards at Wal-Mart today for $32 each. I'm using one of them in a dual monitor setup.

I've got a 64M GF3 hooked to a 21 Nokia, and the 64M Radeon hooked to a 19" Proview. This is my first dual monitor setup, and it's something to behold.

>> Anyone run GTA3 on one of these? Might be the cheap video card upgrade I'm looking for.

In downtown stanton island, with my ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR VIVO, you occationally go into slideshow mode. This card will be MUCH worse, especially considering the PCI bus' limited bandwith.

I briefly played it on my gf's comp at 640x480 with medium detail. It seemed to work ok. Nothing spectacular, but it was playable.
