I am glad I decided to take my unopened 9500 pro back for the 9700 pro. I was debating whether I wanted to spend the extra cash for the 9700 pro but I just had to have it for Generals. Fortunately when I decided to take it back no one had it in stock. So that prompted me to find all stores that even carried the card which led me to Software Etc (also affiliated with Babbages, Funcoland and Gamestop) I was shocked to find out over the phone that they were selling the 9700 pro for $259.99. Circuit City was $400.00 (I think) and Best Buy was $300.00. I usually do not buy retail but I needed to be able to return this card if I get a bad one. So I returned the ATI 9500 Pro for $219.00 + tax and for $43.70 more I was able to get a 9700 Pro for a lot less than I originally thought. I do not know if this is a hot deal or a great deal but the pricematch worked at my local Best Buy. Funny thing is on the GameStop website they do not even show an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.

Software etc. did not have any in stock!

They were out of stock.
Must be a mark down for the next shipment.
Try your local Software etc or affiliated store.

$300.00 was going to hurt. I usually just use the Matrox G450 cards (Great cards for the old RTS games) but now I have done something I said I would never do.................................
pay over $250.00 for a video card! Oh well!

Damn Generals game!

why not go oem ?

259.00 at buyxtrmegear.com

this company's ratings aren't spectacular. they're not disreputable though. it appears to be more hit
than miss with them. you can always cancel the order if the product doesn't arrive within the projected
date.

syzygy, on the rage3d forums, there are a lot of people who got cards from buyxtremegear that were overclocked, I don't know all the details but it appears that they're selling overclocked 9700s as 9700 pros. Possibly very shady.

Has anyone else been able to do this deal? None of the Software etc. family of stores in the Washington DC metro area that I called seem to carry video cards at all

generals is 100% cpu intensive, not graphic card intensive. I've played it with my rig with both a Radeon 9000 and Radeon 9700 and they both performed flawlessly. Not to mention in quickmatch you can only play at 800x600. Still, good deal for those looking for the 9700pro in the cheap!

The price has been around 259.99 for a while at Gamestop. Lucky for me I got one while I was still an employee there = 20% discount = ~200 dollars

You're from Chattanooga? (Me too)
Very few "computer people" live in Chatt.
What area are you from? I probably should of just PMed this.
But I am also interested in the 9700 Pro.

i called around and none of the gamestop's near me had one in stock. one had it in the computer for $259.99...

How do you pricematch at BB when it's not in stock at gamestop?

Yeah I was worried that might be an issue but the Customer Service clerk just asked for the price and I never heard her ask if they were in stock.

Im not sure that is a policy?

Now that I think about it I am surprised that the cheaper deal at Software Etc, Babbages, and Gamestop was not brought to our attention sooner.

Especially considering the popularity of this particular card.

No no no....

You set any graphic setting a little higher the game eats up all the Graphic acceleration you have. It is a pain to even network play the game with someone that doesn't have adequate acceleration. Trust me... we play networked games all the time at my house and the game slows down onto the lowest common denominator. Meaning you have someone with a GF3 or a GF4MX he game starts to crawl as soon as stuff gets busy!

I world say a GF4 4200 is minimum to see some eye candy and get the most out of the game. Below that... well... some people might say they can play it... but I call fun something else!

Okay, as mentioned before Software Etc. has them out of stock. Does anyone have a source (or printout) that I can use to pricematch at Best Buy? Please PM me if you have a saved printout or anything that can help me pricematch this at BB.
