Could someone post or pm/email the info of enabling hyper-z and the program used to OC the board Thanks,

Anyway I recently bought a TV-Wonder from ATi and they now have a Sticker Warning for windows 2000 users that they dont have support for it yet and check the site to se when heh. Atleast they are letting you know they are slow but i wish they could spead it up.

The Radeon LE is the same awesome deal that the V3 2000 was back in the day! Think about it you're getting Gf2 performance at below the price the V3 2000 was available for in its day. Truly a hot deal.

Thanks.. One other question if you don't mind.. I thought I knew the answer, but now I'm not so sure.. Is the s video composite the same as video in? I can use the video in more than the TV out..

The $89 LE has only video OUT.

S-video sends the two analog TV components -- hue and luminence -- separately. Composite combines them, potentially muddying the signal a bit. That's the only difference. (Because a well implemented S-video signal can be dramatically superior to a typical composite signal, commonly folks think S-vid has more scan lines, but it does not.)

Well, got the card in today and I installed it real quick during my lunch hour. My initial impressions are... damn, they aren't kidding about ATI's buggy ass drivers. Granted, I'm using beta 7089 drivers, but Counter-Strike froze up on me and 3DMark2001 locks up on me occasionally. And I haven't even o'c the darn thing yet! Ah well, I left it running QuakeIII at 1024x768@32bpp. Gonna see if it's still up when I get back home in 2 hours.

Oh, it's also kinda interesting that the most popular Radeon forum at rage3d.com seems to be their tech support board, LOL.

Hyper-Z is ATi's technology to solve the problem of removing objects out of view, increasing performance.

I fixed the problem I was having with no TV-out option available.

It turns out I had a . . . well . . . a brief fling with a Creative Labs DXR3 DVD decoder board. There's no sense wallowing in shame, and I know God forgives me even if you don't. Anyway, the uninstall there didn't remove it all -- I had to manually hunt down everything related first to DXR3, and then (when that wasn't enough) to creative labs in the registry and see if it was DVD or DXR3 related (I also have a CL CDRW -- didn't want to hurt that), and if so, nuke it. I also deleted ENC2*.* files from \Windows\System32 (I think that was the dir).

After rebooting, all was well. Monitor properties and the numerous ATI tabs in the display properties/settings/advanced were back -- for good, I hope.

But what a nightmare.

None of my other vid cards had a problem from this; though that's likely due in part to only the Radeon's assisting DVD playback.

BTW, the first impetus to check this out and then follow up on this lead aggressively was a deja.com newsgroup search -- an invaluable tool. I'm glad google.com took it over rather than let it die. For technical support, it's more important than a web search, IMHO.

Well, I ordered mine today ($89 w TV-out) so hopefully it will get here early next week. Of course now I start wondering if I have an AGP slot on my m/b but I'm pretty sure I do. Anyway, can someone confirm for me what the heck a TNT2 Vanta card is and how much better the Radeon will be? I got a Vanta put in my PC when I got it and it seems like it's a piece of crap but ah well...

"Vanta" is indeed Finnish for "piece of crap." It's something like the 3 1/2-bit version of the TNT.

You will be pleased with the Radeon LE, if you can get the drivers to work. It overclocks nicely and easily.

Well, I said I'd reply back with my results. I replaced a Matrox G400 with the LE and am also running a V3 2000 PCI to drive my second monitor.

2D: With light use, I've noticed 2D image is very good, almost indistinguishable from the G400 at 1280 res. The colors seem artificially vibrant to me, but I'm getting used to it and it doesn't affect work. There are little video glitches in CorelDraw 9 every now and then, nothing a screen refresh won't take care of. I've only spent a little time in AutoCAD R14, Pagemaker and Photoshop. Everything seems fine and it doesn't look like I've given up much in 2D, if anything, with the swap. The extended desktop works fine with the V3 in 2D.

3D: I'm trying to work out small problems one by one until I can get to the same point I was at with the G400. I have to admit, it took some playing around with the G400, and it's the same with the LE. I'm using 7089's (also tried 7041's) and am also using the Rage3d tweak. The card seems to run fine at 183/183 although I haven't really hammered on it. I have a 486 fan mounted on the HS.

I haven't been able to get 3dMark2k1 to run. I had to reinstall Q3, but now it runs fine. UT also runs fine in D3d. Images in 32bit games is very nice, again, as good as G400 IMO. The G400 had some issues with UT and they're all gone with the Radeon. The only 16 bit game I've tried is Motocross Madness 2 and the Radeon looks inferior to the Matrox by a big margin. In fact, it looks worse than many other vid cards I've seen/used including V3, Geforce MX, TNT Ultra. The G400 made this game look absolutely gorgeous, those days are gone if I keep the LE.

Conclusion: I'm going to continue testing but it looks like I'll keep the LE as long as there are no major 2D flaws. There doesn't seem to be any compromise in 2D and the LE has increased framerates drastically in the games I play.

*disclaimer: This is my opinion only. YMMV *end disclaimer*

Ugh, what as POS. I got mine in 2 days ago. After a few hours of lockups in Q3 and CS(I tried 4 different driver sets) on the first day I got it, I decided it could be a old driver issue and decided to blow away everything and reinstall Win98SE. I reinstalled everything, used the official supported NONBETA drivers from ATI's site, and put on DX7a. Installed Quake3, patched it, and proceeded to run it. I lock up on the menu screen not even a minute into the game. POS just got dropped off at UPS 30 minutes ago. My trusty Voodoo3 2k has been running Quake3 all nite in demo mode (the only thing I changed was the video card, no other settings were messed with) and it hasn't crashed yet when I checked this morning to make sure it wasn't the rest of my rig crapping out.

Say what you will about 3dfx, but at least their cards were stable and didn't require any tweaking in order to play games straight out of the box. Unless you really enjoy tweaking every little detail on a video card, I'd have to recommend staying away from it.

Boogak, sorry to hear about the problems. After the reinstall, did you load the mobo's chipset drivers (assuming the chipset wasn't supported in Win98)? VIA, for example, would run the V3 fine without VIA's gart driver, but you'd have problems with the LE.

You're right about 3dfx though. For the most part, you never had to mess around with configuration to get them to work properly. That's the reason I would always put them in a client's machine.

Woops, forgot to add my system specs. It's nothing out of the ordinary.

PIII 600 o'c 800
Abit BX6-2 (BX Chipset)
SBLive
Intel 10/100 NIC
256 megs Mushkin PC133 memory

I was surprised that I was having so much problems even after the reinstalling of Win98SE. From the rage3d boards, it seemed like most of the problems were with VIA mobos. I tried clocking it back down to 600 to see if maybe the Radeon LE didn't like the high AGP speed after reinstalling 98 but it locked up in Quake3 anyway. The Radeon was not o'c at all either. Shrug... looks like it'll be Nvidia or bust for me from here on out.

Try the 7089 beta drivers and DX8.

Just want everyone to see this deal again. I got mine today and I love it. Put a old 486 fan, installed new beta driver, overclocked and enabled hyperZ with RaidOn Tweaker------all that in less than 20 min. This baby performs like a retail and cost alot less. For those of you still deciding which card to get...THIS IS GOTTA BE THE HOTTEST DEAL. Go get it anandtecher.

Myself, I had some problems with my new LE due to leftover Creative Labs DXR3/Hollywood-Plus hidden services. No problems now, though I'm not getting the performance many due -- not sure why yet, though I have some suspicions. I love the TV-out, though -- even with a 50 ft S-video cable, it's the best I've run across.

I had a lot of problems getting my previous Voodoo3 to work, too. Had to step back several driver revisions under W98SE to avoid the BSOD on install. Yikes. But worked fine when I backed up to 1.04 -- a real nightmare until then. :^<

Another friend of mine installed his Radeon yesterday -- no problems whatsoever.

So in a nutshell: this is a GREAT card, but your mileage MAY vary.

Got mines today from NewEgg, ordered on Tuesday Night. Anyways, I overclocked it to 200/200 using Powerstrip and it works fine for 45 minutes and then will lock up. Works perfect at 194/194, I enabled HyperZ and this baby rocks with the 32 MB DDR RAM. My old Geforce2 MX only drawback was the SDR, and I like this card better -so I put the GF2 MX in my weaker machine.

ConnCarl, I was wondering if you ever got this card working faster?

This is an excellent price for this card... but I too tried a Radeon (All In Wonder) card about 2 months ago. And it too was not any faster than my current video card(G400 Marvel), so I returned it. And like you, I am very computer literate.

Whoa, there, big boy -- I love my Radeon LE! :^>

It's still not perfect yet -- I'm not getting the speed most others seem to be getting (and that could be due to my system as a whole), but it's still a great card, a big step up gaming-wise over my Voodoo3 3000, and the best all-purpose TV-out (DVD, AVI, etc. -- NOT DVD-only, as would be the case with a Hollywood-plus) I've ever used.

Commended, and recommended.
