I have had my Radeon LE now for many weeks. I am able to overclock it to 200 Mhz no problem, since I have a 40mm fan on the HS. It runs flawlessly on a KT7A with an Athlon 800@1000. I am using the drivers that it came with, not even the new ones. Since it is working well, I am loathe to try the new ones. It runs everything I have tried on it so far, although I admit I am not a heavy gamer. 3dmarks run fine (2000 and 2001), Q3 and some other games run without a hitch.

I am most pleased.

Tcool:

No, I haven't gotten the LE to do anything but run more slowly than it did out of the box.

I'll send you an email and explain...the guys perpetuating this thread have made it clear that they only want to see rave reviews, so I'd rather not elaborate here.

Last time I tried I got accused of "scaring" potential Radeon LE purchasers away.

Good luck!

Raju, Radeon speeds are not that great in the current version of Win2000 and DirectX 8.

However, if you head over to rage3d.com, you will find a hack that will increase speeds significantly (up to 50% in some cases? Basically you load a portion of the beta drivers from DirectX 8.something).

If you get the TV out version ($89 last I checked) it comes with an S-Video and a regular RCA video cable. One of each. Not suer how long they are as I haven't opened them yet but at least they are in there.

CAn anyone find the TV-out version anymore?

I tried to point someone to it, but now it seems to be gone!

And not just from NewEgg, but from pricewatch, etc.!

I bought this card from NewEgg when it was like $83 a few weeks ago. I super-glued a 80mm fan to the heatsink so it overlaps the RAM and I can run it at 205/205 all day long. Even with Hyper-Z left off (which is never) it smokes my Hercules Prophet MX in 32bit color, which is all I ever use. I have yet to see any visual anomalies. Besides, the video QUALITY is so much better. I didn't realize there could be such a difference, but my eyes will never take a GeforceMX again. There is NO reason not to buy this card at $77. Well, if you use Win2K then you should avoid it...the drivers suck. It's also somewhat annoying to have a card that supports pixel shading...but not really since it use v1.0 and DirectX uses v1.1 pixel shaders. Nevertheless, unless you want a GF3, this is the card to get.

Raju:

It will work in Win2k, no problem, but is a little slower (estimates are 5%) than under Win98. Be sure to install the latest beta drivers (from rage3d.com) for best performance. Go to Video section of this board for more info.

I got my card, and it works fine in 3dmark2000 and looking at my desktop, but as soon as i run the one game I play constantly (EverQuest) the game crashes, locks up when changing resolutions, and makes the game pretty much unplayable. Anyone else out there ever play EQ and have it work right? If so, tell me what you did.

I'm almost to the point of killing my whole damn hard drive and reinstalling 98 from scratch to see if that helps.

Blah.

Some of us are suffering more than others with W2K.

I'm one of those many stuck getting around 1800 on the 3Dmark 2001 score -- 1000 or more points less than most others.

Don't know what the issue is, if it's hardware (VIA chipset, Celeron 850/100) or (presumably...?) software, but it's not too great.

Still love the card, but not because IN MY CASE it blows away the GF2 in 3D gaming, but because it's a cheap improvement over my Voodoo3 3000 and has OUTSTANDING TV-out, at least comparatively speaking.

But I do hope to someday get the performance others do with it.

Anyone have a link to the Radeon LE with the TV OUT. I only found links with the item out of stock.

My friend runs a7v133, Tbird 1.2ghz and windows 98SE He wants to use windeows media player with the correct codec loaded and watch Divx movies on his TV using the video cards TV OUT?

What card would you suggest? he also doesn't game and/or care about 3D

I have one but the link of where I got it from is gone. On Newegg.com where it has the regular card there used to be a link right to the TV Out version but it's gone. Maybe they stopped making the card or had a recall or something. Hmm.

I'll sell you mine if you buy me a Geforce2 MX with TV Out. Heh heh. I'm not going to benefit from the extra speed and stuff from the Radeon.

The LE _IS_ great at TV-out, esp. if one gets a cheap S-video cable to go with it (from www.partsexpress.com, e.g.).

That's why I love it.

Game quality is great, but I'm one of those not getting an overwhelming framerate out of it, though it's a lot better than my Voodoo3 3000 was.

Speculation: it may be that ATI is clamping down on US mktg of this card? In favor of the VE with TV-out? But I don't know if its TV-out is any good -- it's a substantially different design in some respects -- maybe wrt TV-out, too?

Grim news, friends :^< -- this from NewEgg (including their spelling errors):

We will not be getting the tv out version anymore,
This item has been dicontinued.

We only have the regular version with no tv out.

It would be an extreme shame if the TVO model was discontinued. Between the $80 VE and $175 VIVO (OEM prices) there just isn't (wasn't?) anything capable of good gaming and quality TVO. And like someone said, the RCA and S-Video cables are included so you spend about $3.50 each for those and $5.00 for the Rage Theatre chip over the bare $77 LE.
