When that happens apoppin, I will have saved so much money by not buying new PC hardware for the last 2 years that I will be able to buy the best high end card and quad core CPU and then I will be back to PC gaming. Then when Xbox3 and PS4 come out and put the PC to shame, I will buy one of those and not upgrade my PC until PC gaming catches up again.

I dont understand why people live and die by PC gaming. PC gaming has obviously gone through a dry spell, so why should gaming habits suffer? There are alternatives out there.

i guess we play different games

i *haven't* gone thru ANY "dry spell" being a *PC-Only* gamer ... i just "expanded" my game list from 'FPS-only' to include hybreds and RPGs .. which i love

there are relatively recent PC games i even 'missed' that i am playing now [Tron2.0/Armed and Dangerous]

... and with the money i *saved* on a big screen LCD, next gen console [or two] and *overpriced* console games that hit bargain bin years later

... i can feed my modest PC HW addiction rather easily

why settle for something that cannot be upgraded and is already starting to show it's technological inferiority?

remember, we're talking next year consoles will look dated

how long did you have that xbox360 or PS3? ... my *same* computer is over 3 years old and is still a very nice gaming rig for 05-07 games ...

bargain bin and mods are another good reason

LOL, no my argument did not get shot down.

We just have different opinions on what quality games are. WE also have different upgrade habits for our PCs.

When you own a console you never have to worry about driver issues, turning settings down, upgrading or system instability. No worrying about whether your PSU is enough, if your system is CPU limited or buggy craptastic operating systems.

BTW, how far are you on Gears of War? GRAW2?

EDIT: Besides, at $399 for the 360 premium bundle it's cheaper than a graphics card alone. You can buy a system for $399 that will last you at least 2 years when a $599 video card is going to last you six months.

how about STALKER ... how does it play on your consoles?

Are the Oblivion mods good for it? and 360's SI has the *same bug* as the PC version but it can't be easily fixed UNTIL they patch it

and Crysis won't be ported for 'awhile' ... ALan Wake ... never .. nor any DX 10 game made for PC

i am way *behind* in my games ... my most demanding and realistic one being "Tax Act, Federal & State"

try to play that on your xbox

Consoles are comforting because I know I can play any game that is released the way it was intended by the developer without sacrificing IQ... EVER. The same $399 that I spent a year ago is alive and kicking and pumping out the frames at 1080P.

I was gonna let this post pass until I read that. Please try STALKER, I didn't like it in the beginning either. However, it picked up the pace and is a much more deep and engaging game then Gears ever will.

Anyway, could we get back on topic? Any R600 benchmarks leaked yet?

Um no. It was late, dual slot, failed to beat its competitor in OpenGL and some D3D titles, consumed more power and had a noisey cooler. Its IQ was a trade off, (TRAA, HQAF etc) with a slight advantage to ATi due to HDr plus AA and only til now it outperforms the card by 20~30%.

It then got replaced by the R580 in 3 months.

People shouldnt be so quick to think about selling, or going thru with selling their 8800GTX's. There is no solid proof on when, or how fast the R600 will be. All this "news" is just more rumor, for now.

I would have to agree. From what I can remember, it was kinda a dissapointment. It was a tad slower mostly, but I cant remember it having worse IQ. I think this was around the time Oblivion was coming out, and they came out with the Chuck patch that enabled HDR+AA in it, so that was a plus. Mostly I was surprised at how fast the 1900s came out.

Was really only good as a "bargain" card later on when it was in the same price bracket as the 7900gt. A little faster performance, but with twice the memory.

Dual-slot a con? Maybe for a very small few, and besides, the 7900 GTX had a dual-slot as well and the 7900 GT's fan was loud and didn't exhaust hot air out of the case, nor was it adjustable in it's RPM like the X1800's fan was.

The X1800 was a complete failure (if you got one when it was expensive). After the X1900 showed up, the X1800 became a completely different card because of it's drastic decay in price. That is slightly what has me worried here.

Let's say R600 finally does show up, late, but thought-out in it's design. What guarantee do we have that ATi won't release an R700 or something 3 months down the road? Going off of their history, why should we doubt that that will happen?

I thinik a R650 refresh has already been mentioned for this year. So the R600 may only have a 3 month. It may be the X1800 all over again. I thought the X1800 was a big loud piece of crap, but the X1900 was much improved all around. In fact for a while the X1950XTX was the best card on the market.

However, with out even a valid benchmark yet for the R600 I will reserve judgment.
