My bud and I went to our local OD to see if they had any Audigy Gamer on clearance. Unfortunately, they didn't have any, but I remembered seeing a thread @ BIGwallet that OD had some Radeon 7000 on clearance. So I brought one along to the checkout. It scanned $14, and the lady was nice enough to give me a 20% discount because it was on clearance.....

As always, Clearance deals are YMMV, but go check your local OD if you need a cheap, but nice 2D AGP card.

The 64mb version is also on clearance, but remember that ONLY the AGP versions are discounted. The PCI cards (which most stores carry still) are not marked down at all.

You can do a net inventory "search at CC for "clearance" items. Net shows their net inventory, and local store inventory.
Type in clearance and computer....or whatever

Anyone found how to do the same for OD ?

I have found clearance at the stores, and it not be on their web site.

Are these cheap vids good enough for kids' games?

IOW, are they better than the video onboard the Asus A7N266-VM? I've got to make six of these things.

You probably wouldn't gain much in performance. I think the A7N266-VM has built in GeForce2 video which is pretty comparable to a Radeon 7000 last I checked.

The onboard video tends to eat up your memory bandwidth. If you are going to be doing any gaming, you would be better off with the Radeon, which has it's own memory.

First of all, I think it's just the 7000 because OD's site shows discontinued. I got the item number from their site (149952) and then called around to a couple of local stores and they don't have it, so this is going to be a big YMMV. $14 for a new, modern video card, so if you can find it, I wouldn't worry about it what features it has. It's going to pretty much kill any onboard video and run any kids game just fine.

Good luck and post if you find one at your local store.

Assuming that it is the built by ATI retail (which I believe from the title) then no, it should only have 1 vga port.

Either OD is closed on Sunday or the two left in the Phoenix area are actually closed.

Well, it's just a shrunken Radeon VE (limited feature set compared to a full Radeon, Radeon DDR, or Geforce 2). It's probably not going to break any records. If you do the remotest amount of gaming, it might be worth finding a good deal on a Geforce 4 MX440, which is much like a Geforce 2 Ultra. See Tom's VGA charts for benchmarks on cards.

It's the Radeon 7000 VGA ACP with 32MB of DDR memory. It has a single VGA connector in back, no others. Built in DVD playback. 3 year warranty. 14 bucks. It has a heatsink but no fan. Comes in the retail ATI box.

I just printed Tom's big graphics card comparison and the LE isn't even listed. However, I think I recall it had a small edge over the VE, which Tom calls the same as the 7K.

Sounds like a decent card to throw in for a spare pc or for non-gamers. Radeon's have excellent 2d quality.
$14 dollars is a great price. If u want to spend like $20 dollars more, you could probably find a card with better 3D.

The VE and 7000 are the only two Radeons that aren't. They completely lack any sort of T&L and have only one texturing pipeline.

I've heard from more than one source that a TNT2 is actually faster.

Oregon is out, except for MAYBE one in Salem.

Oh, and the 7000 is MUCH faster than the 128 by 6872. That's a lot.

Also, the PCI version is still $60.

Going into the Office Depot in Las Vegas was like Christmas. Here is what Santa brought:

Soundblaster Audigy $12.02
Radeon 7000 PCI 64MB $9.62
Radeon 7000 AGP 64MB $9.62
PNY Geforce4 MX420 $12.02 Turned out to be an MX440 in the box
Motorola FRS T5420NI 2Pack $24.24 with a $15 Rebate
Labtec 8301 headset $5.01

They had all clearance stuff 50% off of the scanned price. My friend also picked up some US Robotics internal modems for $6 and change with a $10 rebate.

I have a Duron 700 system without a HD or Video card. I figured this would be a decent enough Video card, and with the HD deals out there for a 120+ gigger, I could swing that also. I have a friend who wants something cheap for his son to get on the net. This should do well.

Thanks for the heads up.
