ATi TV Wonder drives = suck!!!

I just got an ATi TV Wonder full version that I bought used from the FS/Trade forums here. I DL the new MMC 7.1 from ATi's site then install the card. Things went pretty smoothly, more smoothly than I was expecting from an ATi product on XP Pro, so I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was going well until I reboot and try to watch TV. The screen is all garbled. So I reboot, this time the MMC TV program freezes at the splash screen and no other programs can be run. I have to hit the power button because nothing can be terminated.

Basically about 50% of the time it just freezes and I have to hit the power button to hard power-off the machine, the other 30% of the time the screen is all garbled. So this POS only works about 20% of the time. But when it decides to work, everything is fine.

I'm glad I didn't pay retail for this card, as it is everything I would have expected after hearing horror stories of ATi's drivers.

BTW, before you accuse me of not being able to properly set up a computer, I just rebooted more in the past 10 minutes than I have in the 4 months I've been running XP Pro. My computer is dead stable, and everything works flawlessly.... that is... except this card.

Oh well, I just want to capture some video, so I guess I can put up with this card for the few times I use it.

Yeah Ati have crappy drivers, but they barely released the product. You can't expect it to be perfect on its release date. No software is. Thats why they have service packs and update patches.

Um, you're not supposed to be using MMC 7.1 for WinXP dude. D/L MMC 7.2, that one is for WinXP exclusively.

Hi Def,

I was waiting for the radeon 8500DV for tv watching and vid capture, But am also considering a seperate tv-tuner.

Anyway, over at rage3d.com I noticed a couple of threads that might help you: Here

It appears to be a color depth issue on some winXP machines.

On Rage3d's main page:
"ATI has released MMC 7.2 for WindowsXP. You can now download it here .
It supports the following video cards: (do not use it in conjucting with any of ATI's tv tuner cards. There is a seperate MMC for that.)

MMC 7.2 appears to be for the All in Wonder cards and regular vid cards and NOT for seperate tuner cards.

yeah, i had the same problem with ati drivers. My tv window would show garbage so i exchanged it for the hauppague wintv-go.

Thanks for the help artemedes. The "click somewhere else" trick works for me. It's ghetto, but it works.

Yeah TV Wonder is a crasher. :|
I have a Radeon VE and I can't even load the special MMC 7.1 drivers made for that specific combo. :|
