I also feel a little loyalty to nvidia for what they did to 3dfx. The ultimate David vs Goliath story.

If it werent for Nvidia, we'd be playing in 16bit color still. ATI just tagged along for the ride.

If it weren't for ATi we'd still be stuck with nVidia's shimmering AF, subpar 2D quality, subpar AA and washed out colors.

That may be true, but if it weren't for the trail Nvidia blazed with GeForce256, we also might be playing games on an ATI Rage MAXX 10th edition, now featuring 48 Rage3D GPUs.

I personally believe brand loyalty is for the stupid but I have a slight bias towards nVidia. Why? Because green and black are more aesthetically pleasing than red and white. Also, they have better tech demos (a.k.a. 3D sex fairies).

If you have a stupid and pointless or serious reason for favoring one over the other, feel free to list it here.

If you're having trouble deciding, a good thing to ask yourself is: If there were two big, burly guys, one named nVidia and one named ATi, who would win in the octagon?

Lol, my bias towards ATI is because I think Red is better than Green.

Well anyway, in terms of buying decisions, all things equal (including drivers!), I would buy ATI, but performance determines foremost.. would never buy a equally priced underperforming ATI.

I am relatively unbiased, but overall if picking between them was required, i've always preferred ATi for a number of reasons.

I don't really care much these days anymore though.

I used to be an AMD/ATi guy, not that it matters.

Now i have nothing but dislike for AMD, & well, ATi doesn't really exist anymore...

nVidia:
-7900 GTX for laptop
-8800 GTX for shuttle/desktop

AMD:
-X1600 for mac laptop

The mac lappy is my wife's and doesn't get any use from me. Basically all I use right now is nVidia. That said, I do prefer red pcb's to green ones so if both AMD/nVidia had equally performing parts, I'd choose AMD for the red color (unless an nVidia partner had a black pcb to offer).

5150Jocker, check EVGA offerings. The 8800GTX ACS3 has a black PCB.

I'm neutral based on a price for performance perspective but I'm partial to Nvidia, it has to be said. So I voted NVIDIA.

Cards that I've owned:
1) Nvidia GeForce MX-4000
2) Nvidia GeForce 6600GT
3) ATI Radeon X850XT
4) Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS 320MB (ordered)

#3 has served me well throughout its time but...

Although #2 mauled #1 and #3 whipped #2...#4 beats all and will be the first time I'm actually buying a high-end video card (it feels good)....I'm coming back home Nvidia!!

I couldn't care less.

I understand people not being neutral when it comes to politics, or religion, or sports.

But friggin' video cards?

I only care about who offers the best performance for the buck. That's whom I'm loyal to.

Yes, neutrality, which makes the only logical sense is winning, gtfo.

8800GTS, X1900XT, X1800XT, X800GTO², 6800GS, 6600GT, 9600XT, GeForce4 MX440, 3D Prophet 4000XT, GeForce2 GTS, S3 Trio. I am neutral all the way, it's the only way to buy, anyone who buys based on fanboyism is a complete and utter moron.

P.S. In your face to all the muppets who called me an ATI Fanboy, that means you Crusader and keysplayer.

yes.... for the last 5 years I have generally bought components with Blue PCB's....to match the Gigabyte motherboards that I use in my systems.

Same here. I buy the card that I feel best fits my needs at the time.

Fanboy crap is for toddlers.

I have to admit to being sad enough to do this. 90% of the components in my PC are black. The RAM has a green PCB but you can't see it because of the black heatspreaders, so it's all good.

Bingo!
Oh look, some troll misquoted me and turned it into to a completely off-topic and baseless personal attack.

Go back to playschool, kid.

I may be "Ulfhednar The Ugly", but you just totally threw away all your moral high-ground and gave it to me.

I find it strange that people actually do this.
